Last night I saw "Alien Boy" at Clinton street theatre (cstpdx dotcom), the story of the 2006 Portland Police murder and attempt to cover up (for 4 years) the findings. The beating of James Chasse (a compelling sensitive man who suffered from mental illnesse, but had never been arrested), took place just outside Bluehour (one of Portland's finest restaurants, in case you're outside pdx), so some of the most compelling eye-witnesses, who participated generously with this film, are quite riveting. The director, Brian Lindstrom, who is married to Cheryl Strayed, was present for a Q&A with the audience. Audience questions quite sincere, wanting to understand why the grand jury didn't indict the Humphreys and Nice, and "who has authority over the police," type questions. I so strongly recommend you see this amazing film. At Clinton Street ($6) tonight and Sunday, then it moves on. I would love to see this film be widely seen, and hope it will reach a mass audience, i.e. television. Congratulations to Mr. Lindstrom and his colleagues, Tom Steenson, Jason Renaud, and many others.
