the everyday impacts of christian hegemony
Saturday November 2, 2013
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Presented and facilitated by Paul Kivel, educator, writer and social justice activist
When Christianity became the dominant religion of the Roman Empire in the 4th century a new “western civilization” began to emerge which continues to have a profound impact on our beliefs, values, behaviors, and public policy. This interactive workshop looks at what Christian dominance is, what its foundational values are, how it affects our foreign and domestic policy, and how it has been resisted.
We will discuss the key role of Christian hegemony in the intersections between interpersonal violence and various systems of oppression. Participants will leave with a framework, vocabulary, and deep understanding of the crucial nature of our struggle to build a pluralistic and sustainable society based on healing, equality, mutuality, justice and interdependence with all life.
