HI Adriana,
Thanks for your note. I think we're going to go ahead and see what we want to do here in Salem. We will help promote the trip to Portland for those who want to do that, but we also want to give people who want to focus here in Salem opportunity to mark the day as well.
Most of the UU congregation it is pretty elderly, and don't seem that interested in traveling to Portland for events. There's also the matter of the Salem city council and mayor not having signed the mayors climate letter – the only large city in Oregon not to have signed. So we need people speaking out right here in Salem – plus we have a great eco-ball globe visual prop for photos.
Cheers, John Gear

Hello John,
I'm excited to hear that the UU Congregation-social justice folks of Salem are helping organize for the PCM. I just wanted to let you know, just in case you haven't heard yet, that there is a large PCM event being planned for the Portland area, and that a couple of Salem groups (in particular 350 Salem, as well as several other groups across the state) that have chosen to work on recruiting folks in their area to come to this large solidarity event in Portland (to make it even larger) rather than organizing a smaller one of their own. Having said that, please be clear that I am in no way discouraging your group from organizing your own event in Salem (there will also be smaller solidarity events in Bend and possibly Eugene), but just wanted to be sure you're aware of this.
With appreciation,
Adriana
