An email from Keith Plessy, a descendant of Homer Plessy (Plessy v. Ferguson), regarding his efforts to have Homer Plessy recognized by the Presidential Medal of Freedom:

My name is Keith M. Plessy. I am a 4th generation descendant of Homer A. Plessy, plaintiff in the Plessy v. Ferguson US Supreme Court case of 1896. You may remember when NELA's conference was held in New Orleans. My partner in history Phoebe Ferguson, joined my wife and I as guests at your evening reception. Together, we formed The Plessy and Ferguson Foundation. May 18, 2016 marks the 120th anniversary of the Plessy v. Ferguson Decision. In observance of the anniversary date, a We-the-People petition has been posted on the White House web site. We need 100,000 people signed in 30 days. The link to the petition is attached to this message. I am asking for the membership of NELA to sign and share this petition with your contacts and networks. If you could fulfill this request, it could very well be the X factor in helping us reach the ultimate goal. We are now publicly searchable on the White House web site. Your support in this initiative is deeply appreciated!

Homer Plessy's Freedom Medal will be permanently displayed in the Louisiana State Museum for the Tricentennial of New Orleans in 2018.

Most respectfully,
