Oppose the U.S. House Budget Bill
The U.S. House this week will be debating President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” with tax cuts largely benefiting the wealthy at a cost of $4.5 trillion over the next decade, financed partly by cutting $2 trillion from healthcare and other programs.
Unitarian Universalists believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person and that we all are part of the interdependent web.
While Trump says Medicaid, which covers 72 million people, won’t be cut, the bill envisions $880 billion in savings on Medicaid, partly through making it harder to get eligibility.
Those cuts to Medicaid would hurt medical care in urban and rural areas, financially endanger hospitals serving the poor, and create pressure on clients of Medicare and private insurance that will have to pay more to help hospitals cover their losses.
The bill also would extend and expand Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, which gave households in the top 5% in income cuts that were more than three times the total value of the cuts received by the bottom 60%.
Please take action, asking your U.S. representative to vote against this “big, beautiful bill” and to urge their colleagues to do the same.
