Isuccessfully created several infrared images in my camera. When I import them to pse 15, the raw files have a red tone that was not on the camera image. I have searched several forums for processing infrared; many are helpful, but use photoshop, and so the options are not the same. For example, in one tutorial that i found, the solution is simply to use "auto tone" but the auto smart tone on pse 15 didn't yield the same result.

Mainly I'm frustrated that I can't find help for pse 15. there is no phone support available for this product and my internet searches all refer to photoshop processing. i would love to expand my knowledge of pse but don't find much beyond the basics.

One one hand, you are new with digital editing, on the other you are wanting to play with a very special effect that not one user in a thousand will ever want to use . To make things worse, the 'infrared' effect is not something natural in our viewing faculty, it's rather an interesting artistic effect requiring a good understanding of the physics of light and of our vision process.

Actually I've been digital editing for about 10 years. Took up photography again once kids were grown, and have been trying ever since to find my way back to the darkroom processes i enjoyed so much in the 70s. I did a lot of infrared, and hand tinted them.

I did try your steps before...but the result isn't exactly what i have in mind. I'll have to keep digging on You tube. I knew that, I guess, but this forum was the only way to express my frustration with PSE as the forgotten stepchild of Adobe.

If you were around during the 70s, you might relate to my frustration at how complicated things have become. While I marvel at the technology available in our homes, I do lament how much time I have to spend on trial and error since PSE comes with such scant support.

You'll get mostly Photoshop tutorials on the web, and the problem with Adobe Elements tutorials is perhaps that you have got too many for what you are after. We might also guide you for appropriate Adboe help.

Yesterday I found this you tube helpful; haven't yet had the opportunity to work on it today. This is a photoshop elements tutorial on achieving infrared effects, produced by Photo Plus magazine. But it was produced a number of years ago.

Upon receiving my infrared filter the other day, my first backyard trial indicated that shots taken with picture style "Faithful" were muddy; while those set to Monochrome (with filters) yielded the infrared simulation...however when I uploaded the RAW files to PSE, the photos were all tinged with red, not visible on the camera lcd display. Since I don't have a lot of experience processing RAW, I don't know if that's normal, nor how to fix it.

How are you setting your white balance in the camera? If you are trying to get color IR you need to use a custom white balance for this to work at all. I have found the best is to point the camera at sunlit green grass with the IR Filter on the lens. Once that is set you will see a shift in the colors that will make a more pleasing photo. In fact you could try using jpegs in PSE. But as far as using PSE for post processing IR Raw files, it is just not possible. It will have to be Photoshop or Lightroom with a custom profile added.

The second thing to remember is that if you are using a camera that is unconverted with a 720nm filter on the front all you can really do well is monochrome. Color IR will never look the way you want with that set-up. Most cameras that are sensitive to IR will produce pleasing Black and White IR in jpeg if the camera is set to monochrome. You can then work with the jpeg in PSE to get it the way you want.

If you have created the DNG profile in the standalone Adobe DNG Profile editor, you have the same calibration tab in Elements as the one in the full Photoshop? There are suggested IR monochrome profiles.

Thank you, johnc. I will try the Jpeg...that makes sense. White balance --- problem there is that with the IR filter on the lens, I can't see anything through the viewfinder...so i'm not sure how the white balance could adjust, but i'll certainly give that a shot. Thank you.

If you don't have live view on your camera it is really hard to do on an unconverted camera. You might try setting to monochrome and bracketing to help you find your exposure. If you have a mirrorless camera you might find this a lot easier.

Before prepping an image for the web which entails resizing, sharpening, and watermarking I always edit my images as desired. This is my fully edited image. While the focus is exact, I would like to see a little more clarity before I upload it to the internet.

My first step in watermarking is to select the type tool. From there I choose my font, century gothic for me, font size, and then font color (I usually choose either black or white depending on the background).

Great post, I am only just getting into editing so always love reading the Photoshop Friday posts. Like many other CM's out there I carry a lot of gear day-to-day; from wallets & cell phones, baby gear, snack food, drinks etc and of course camera gear. For me the perfect bag is one that is sizable, yet comfortable to wear (either using a should strap, or by carrying it) has adjustable sections so that drinks are seperate from camera etc. Most importantly, for me, is definitely the look, I want something funky and not just your typical camera bag, something that just looks like a handbag!

When it comes to camera bags, I'm always looking for something that doesn't look like a traditional camera bag. Since my camera bag also acts as a purse on most days, I want it to look beautiful in additional to being functional!

I have been a photographer for a few years now and am just learning PS Elements. This is a great way to learn new tools to make my images better while I am at lunch. Thank you and I will be tuning in from now on. See ya on Fridays.

Thanks to Silhouette Bags for the sponsorship and contest. I look for style first and then the best use of space in a bag. I have to be able to fit the items I need to keep them safe and yet not look like I am carrying around a suitcase just to have my camera handy. This style of bag is perfect.

I just need a camera bag since I have none ? I need something to hold my camera and one extra lens plus my charger/batteries and the bag has to at least look nice (not a boring black bag that you can get any discount store). Thanks for the chance!

Great tutorial! As a PSE user and a newbie at that i am always searching for PSE tutorials and have been wondering how to do exactly this, great timing! And beautiful bag, i always have my eye out for stylish camera bags that can hold my camera body as well as pockets to protect all of my lenses.

One of the reasons I don't take more photos is that I don't have a good bag that's stylish, comfortable and practical. If I had a bag like that, I would certainly take my camera with me everywhere and get much more practice using it and enjoying it, which is my ultimate goal! Thanks for the tutorial.

Thanks for the great tutorial, I have forwarded it to a couple of friends. I keep drooling over the Silhouette Bag, it is exactly what I need for some upcoming events. I love both colors and intend, to one day, own both. The style says high fashion, while the functionality says, professional photographer. You have created my dream bag.

I've very picky about the purses I carry and it has always frustrated me not being able to find a camera bag/purse that was polished and professional looking, but didn't scream "CAMERA BAG" or that I had to wear like a first grader going to school!. These bags are exactly what I've been looking for. I'd not heard of this company before- another thing that really excites me is that there price is so much more affordable than the other bags I've been drooling over.

Thanks for the PSE tutorial. I'm a PSE user and appreciate the details! While I obviously need good spaces and padding for the camera, for me the seller on a bag is having a few pockets for the things I can't go without so that it can be the ONLY bag I take when I'm headed out with the kids. I need a space for 1-2 diapers, a baggie with wipes, a wallet, cell phone, and keys. Then I'm ready to go!

As a mother of 3, I'm always wanting to carry my camera with me to capture special moments. It's really tedious carrying around two bags everywhere I go so I find myself leaving the camera at home sometimes =(. I'm looking for a great bag that will fit my camera and purse items.

I look for something that doesn't look like a traditional camera bag. It needs to be padded enough to protect my gear but not so large that it's inconvenient to take places. Extra storage for keys/wallet is a huge bonus.

Great tutorial! Nice and simple to accomplish too. I love a bag where my camera is super easy to access. And I'm a bit of a sucker for lots of pockets and nooks and crannies. Thanks April for the tutorial and Silhouette for the sponsor!
