ACM Members:
The local
programming contest will be this Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in
Keplinger L1. If you hope to attend the regional contest contest on
Saturday, November 3 you will need to compete at the local contest
unless you have made other arrangements with me.
The local contest will be conducted using Java on lab computers. You may use the Java API, and any printed
material you bring with you. There will be 8 problems, and 2 hours in
which to complete them. I do not expect anyone to come close to
finishing all 8 problems, but it will give you an opportunity to pick
which problems you think will be the easiest.
Scoring will be similar (but not identical) to the actual ACM
competition. Rankings will be determined by the number of problems
completed. Ties will be broken by the number of incorrect submissions
for completed problems (If you submit a problem several times and never
get it right, it will not count against you). Any remaining ties will
be broken by the amount of time it took to arrive at a working solution
for each problem.
I will be in the lab at 5:30. If you intend to use an IDE such
as Eclipse or NetBeans, I suggest showing up early to make sure
everything works before the contest.
If you have any questions, feel free to send me an e-mail.
