URAM plans siege on VS over demands of Statehood activists
March 16, 2011 6:13:21 PM
PNS | Dehradun
The Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Manch has also decided to stage a
gherao of the Vidhan Sabha in support of its demand for discussion of
the problems being faced by Statehood activists in the Budget session
of the Assembly.
The Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Manch will gherao the Vidhan Sabha
on March 15 in support of this demand and against the rising level of
corruption in the State.
The Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Manch office bearers allege that the
State Government has continued its apathetic attitude towards those
who actively participated in the movement for the formation of
Uttarakhand. The rising level of corruption and growing red-tapism has
dominated the actions being undertaken in different sectors.
These factors have prevented development works from being executed in
the State. The Statehood activists have been expecting that the
Government will take steps for their benefit but so far they have not
been satisfied by Government action.
Many Statehood activists have expired either in old age or from some
illness but the Government has remained apathetic.
The condition of Statehood activists living in the mountainous regions
of Uttarakhand is worse that those living in Dehradun. URAM leaders
allege that though the Government is announcing development works and
schemes amounting to crores of rupees the people living in the
mountainous regions are still feeling cheated.
While the Government claims to have facilitated 50,000 appointments,
this is not visible and remains an empty claim.
The URAM has demanded that 10 per cent reservation be facilitated for
Statehood activists in Government jobs till 2020. An activist who has
spent even one day in the jail during the Statehood movement should
receive benefits like pension. The Government should also make
separate provision for Statehood activists in the budget.
The pensions payable to activists who have expired should be paid to
their spouse or family members. To protest in support of these demands
and against rising corruption in the State, the URAM will gherao the
Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday.
