Peter Hartcher is an award-winning journalist and author. He is
currently the political editor for The Sydney Morning Herald and is
also a Visiting Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy,
a position he has held since 2003. In recognition of his professional
achievements, Peter has been honoured with many awards, including a
Gold Walkley – Australia's most prestigious journalism award – as well
as the Citibank award for business reporting. Peter contributed to the
Quarterly Essay last year and has written essays for the Washington-
based foreign policy journal The National Interest. His 2004 book
“Bubble Man: Alan Greenspan and the Missing Seven Trillion Dollars”

American downturn. Peter has on many previous occasions been invited
to speak on the big issues of our times before influential audiences
