Dear graduates,

We hope you received your copy of TOWER magazine Autumn 2010, published by the UTS: Alumni Relations Office and mailed to all UTS graduates around the world. With an International theme, it features an interview with the former model/actress, now feature film director, Rachel Ward.

Ward attended university for the first time at UTS as a mature-aged student in the early 90s. "It was daunting, really daunting to be 35 years' old and going to university. To be in a classroom full of 18-year-olds who I was sure would pip me at every post," she says.
The Thorn Birds star credits a postgraduate writing course at UTS for allowing her to find her creative voice. Since then, Ward has gone on to direct two short films and the widely acclaimed feature film, Beautiful Kate, which was aired across cinemas last year.
In addition to Rachel Ward, the International Issue features 10 'Towering' alumni from around the world; education graduate Shawn A-in-chut Atleo who has been elected as the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations in Canada; science alum Steele Diggles who works in -70*C temperatures as a machinist on the South Pole; and business graduate Troy Lum who brings the world to Australia through his company Hopscotch Films.
