Hi all,

I just finished wiring the uTracer 3+ kit. It works the first time!

I would like to share with the group my experience, but also learn from your own experiences.

Now I need to put the uTracer in a box. An front panel draft is attached.

I just have to do it !FrontPanelDraft01.png

Congratulations on your success!

I see your panel design includes an alternate heater supply, continuous mode switch, and jacks for connecting top caps to the HV supplies.  Some other functions you might consider adding are the low/+ Vg and Ig extension, a calibration switch that places 10k resistors across A-k and g2-k, and an H-k leakage and shorts test.

I favor a patch cord setup over rotary switches for unlimited versatility, but that might depend on how many tubes and tube types you want or need to test.

I also prefer the patch cord setup to keep much shorter wire runs to avoid oscillations with high slope tubes (S greater than 15).
It depends on the tubes you wish to test how much of a issue oscillations may become.
For almost all audio type tubes and using a uTracer3+ oscillations are mostly a non-issue.

In my experience with a uTracer6 when testing high slope tubes like sweep tubes wire lengths become very important to get clean oscillation free data.
Pretty sure a switch setup and all the wires involved using a uTracer6 would limit your ability to test many high slope tubes.

To be completely honest I also went to patch cords as it is quick and easy to build.
So for a utracer3+ if you want switches go for it.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. In fact, I found boxes in my attic with about 250 tubes from my grandfather.

I had in stock a box and a few rotary switches, which is why I drew that draft.

I will also consider to add some other features as mentioned.
