Dear all,

I would like to share a solution I found for the error I got when I tried to compile latex file with accented characters in my reference.

I am using MikTex 2.9 (Latex Program), LyX 2.1.4 (Document Processor), JabRef 3.3 (Bib management software)

The error:

Error Log:

Reference.bib file, the accented character:

I found the solution in the following link http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/57743/how-to-write-%C3%A4-and-other-umlauts-and-accented-letters-in-bibliography.

The character "ì" in bib file was replaced with "{\`i}":

Problem Solved!!!

*p/s:

Actually there are different solutions to solve it, for example using biber backend processor which is a BibTeX replacement, with full Unicode support.

But biber only works with biblatex, not with natbib. (http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/25701/bibtex-vs-biber-and-biblatex-vs-natbib)

It is an alternative solution for those who want to try. (https://wiki.lyx.org/BibTeX/Biblatex#using-biber)

True, accented characters must be in math mode, even for Bibtex field. Thanks for sharing.
