While Dish Anywhere has been available on Android mobile devices since 2013, customers can now use Android TV media players and smart TVs for the first time to access their Dish programming, either at home or on the go, according to Dish.
Dish Anywhere gives Hopper customers the ability to watch 100 percent of their live and recorded content, plus thousands of on-demand titles, from any location on internet-connected mobile devices, including smart phones, tablets and computers, and televisions via Amazon Fire TV and now Android TV.
Dish Anywhere can be accessed on Android TV devices, including media players such as the AirTV Player, Mi Box and NVIDIA Shield TV, and Sharp Aquos and Sony Bravia smart TVs. Dish set-top boxes that give customers access to live, recorded and on-demand content on Dish Anywhere include Hopper 3, Hopper with Sling, and first-generation Hopper or compatible ViP receivers connected to a Sling Adapter. All Dish customers may use Dish Anywhere to watch on-demand titles.
To activate DISH Anywhere, you'll first need to download the app on your smart TV, firestick (or other streaming device), or phone. Once that's finished, log in to the device using your DISH login information. That should gain you access to your account fairly easily.
DISH Anywhere is a streaming app that allows you to watch your DISH content on your computer or mobile device. All you have to do is download the app (or, on PC, visit www.dishanywhere.com in Google Chrome or Safari), sign in with your DISH credentials, and start binge-watching.
The company just announced the "Virtual Joey" a smart TV app that will come built into select LG televisions, and which will take the place of a physical Joey extender. To be clear, you'll still need a Hopper DVR to anchor the whole experience, but this would at least mean you have one less piece of hardware taking up space in your house. According to company reps, the app will come to 2013 and 2014 LG smart TVs, though it's working to ink deals with other manufacturers as well. We hope to get an in-person demo here at CES, so hang tight for some hands-on!
