Hey everyone:

I hope you had a great Christmas. We now have just 3 DAYS before we leave for Ghana, and there are a few things Ronak, Nameer, and I want to mention (see below). Ronak will be sending out another email soon with a liability waiver (that you must have your parents sign and bring on the trip) and an outline of everyone's itineraries for your reference. As always, let me know if you have any questions.
  1. Tuition for next semester is due on January 4th, so make sure you take care of that before Saturday.
  2. Remember to print out the program packet that Hellen sent us, and read it some time this week or on your way to Ghana. Take some time to think about how you're going to teach certain concepts and meet the goals of the brigade; this will make more sense after reading through the packet and A LOT more sense after our first full day in-country.
  3. From our conference call with Hellen, it looks like we'll have power outlets available on the brigade. That being said, we don't know how many, so we'd still like you to be conservative with the electronics you bring. Ghana uses UK-style outlets (three large, rectangular pins), so plan accordingly.
  4. If your first flight on Saturday is international, remember that your airline will want you to be at the airport TWO hours before you take off. This is pretty standard at any time of year, but keep in mind that airports will be especially busy with people coming home from the holidays, so you might even want to arrive earlier so you have plenty of time to get through security. If you're flying out of Houston, Ronak, Nameer, and I will be at IAH (Terminal D) at 1:00 pm; one of us will be posted at the end of security to point you in the right direction, and the other two will be waiting at the gate.
  5. Finally, I've attached a list of Fante vocabulary provided by GB that you can practice before we get to Ghana. Don't feel expected to learn everything from the list, but saying even just one or two things in the local language is always a nice gesture, so I recommend it.
Can't believe it's almost here,

Ian
