Hey guys,
I can't attend meeting tomorrow cause I have a test 7-10pm. However, here's an agenda:
1. Go through PowerPoint (attached)
2. Children's c
harla (more info on this below)
Important things to talk about:
1. Reiterate deadlines and importance of meeting them
2. Go over deadline schedule (in ppt)
3. Go over shots and pills again (in ppt)
4. Make sure everyone has valid (NOT EXPIRED) passports
5. Create "
charla" (see pasted email below)*
6. Answer questions
7. Reiterate that they really need to meet upcoming $820 deadline on 4/30 - we can't book flights until they have $800 in
8. Explain they can book on their own (if their using miles or something) but if they want to, they need to email gbbaustin@gmail. To let us know. And we will update their empowered goal to $820.
*Charla activity: (See pasted email below & attachment for more detailed explanation)
Basically, brigaders will be performing 2 charlas (or workshops) during the brigade. The one for the adults is prepared during the brigade, but the one for the children, which the brigaders will perform on their first day in the community, is prepared beforehand. Our topic for the children of the community is Leadership and Communication.
Have the brigaders start on their workshop. Give them remainder of meeting time to work on it.
Let me know if yall have any questions! There's another meeting next Wednesday, May 1st, same time and room, so make sure to mention that as well please. Thanks yallll

Hi May Business brigade presidents,
While you are preparing for your upcoming Business Brigade, it is really important that you prepare a children's charla! (A charla is a "chat" or in this case, a workshop.)
Each group will teach two types of charlas: for the children, and for the community adults/cooperative. The topics for the community workshops will be determined while on the brigade. You and your chapter will have time to speak with the community, ask questions, assess their knowledge and needs, and create relevant workshops using this information. On your first day in the community, you will have an afternoon to hold a charla for the children. For this children's charla, you will need to be prepared before arriving in country.
For the children's charla, your group is responsible for putting together a fun and interactive lesson to teach the children of the community about the concepts of leadership and communication. This includes things such as how to be an effective leader and how to communicate well with your peers and family. You can bring props, sing songs, do a skit, whatever you want! Please be sure that it is interactive and fun, and that at the end of the day, they are learning a lesson.
I have attached the charla guide to help you prepare it.
I had included our Spanish cheat sheet in the pre-departure email I sent out earlier. Please emphasize to your group the importance of learning a few key phrases in Spanish. It makes such a difference if volunteers have a few phrases under their belts and are willing to try. Especially in the children's charla, knowing at least a little bit of Spanish can really strengthen your brigade experience. If anyone in your group is fluent, I would also recommend including mini Spanish lessons in your group's meetings.
If you have any questions or concerns, or if you want to run your ideas by me, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best,
Stephanie
