Does anyone else see a contradiction in Clinton going on last week
about being the defender of the ordinary American during the tax
break debate and then having a $50,000 a plate fundraiser on Friday
at Steven Spielberg's house? What's worse, taking money from big
business or taking money from entertainment industry slugs?

Taking money from big business.

Any other questions?

A good try, and very close, lpkh670 !

Of course, the real answer is "entertainment slugs ARE big
business".

I, for one, sleep better at night knowing that Clinton is slowly
forming some solid leadership principles and core values with the help
of such luminaries as Steven Spielberg, Barbra Streisand, and Ted
Danson.

(I understand the big question around the dinner table was,
"Hey, you guys know all about movie stars and stuff - why did everyone
like Ronald Reagan so much? Pass the gravy. Can you teach me how to
be like him? Please? What's this little bitty fork for?)

Of course, Jack Valenti was busy raising money for Republicans in
Hollywood, too. But, his dinner was only $500 a plate, and so
probably attracted only Beverly Hills maids and gardners. You don't
think the Repubs are trying to replace the Demos as the "party of the
people", do you?

Wasn't Jack Valenti a former member of LBJ's staff?

Another sign of our school's decline:
Barbara Streisand gave a policy speech at the JFK School at Harvard.
Have we gotten any celebrity slugs to speak at our school? This is
another glaring deficiency in our program. First, our school was
left high and dry after the GOP win in November, and now there is
a celebrity gap between our schools. This will surely be enough
to drop us to number five in rankings next year. I think the
newly elected GPAC speaker and publications representative should
be charged with bringing a comparable speaker to our school.
My suggestions:
Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, "Techniques for grabbing the mike
during awards ceremonies"
Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger, "Animal rights and Ace Ventura"
Willie Nelson, "Smoking a bomber and driving: Legalizing marijuana
and the politics of defensive driving"

Rob, I agree with you. Why should the JFK School get "Barbra" and
so many other really important speakers?

As a newly elected member of the commencement committee, I will be
lobbying hard to bring a high-profile celebrity in for the class
of 1996. I think starting out by asking some of the young
Hollywood policy wonks like Drew Barrymore, Rob Morrow, Johnny Depp
or perhaps the astute Andrew Shue would be a good place to start.

What I would really like to see is the first commencement
speaker at the LBJ graduation with a visible tattoo.
I better go call Cher before she gets booked for an info-mercial
the same weekend. Think her ex-hubby Congressman will feel slighted?
