SUMMER INSTITUTE ON PHILANTHROPY AND
VOLUNTARY SERVICE
Do you know of students who think it is important to get
involved and give something back to their community? Are
they involved with organizations on campus or in their
community that promote volunteering or civic involvement?
Students now have an opportunity to learn more about why
philanthropy is important in American life, the historic
roots of philanthropy, and the ethical values that support
them.
Help us to tell students about the Summer Institute on
Philanthropy and Voluntary Service, a program of the
Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, the country's
leader in research and teaching on philanthropy located in
Indianapolis on the Indiana University-Purdue University
Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus.
The Institute is a six-week residential program, June 9 -
July 21, 2001, primarily geared toward college juniors and
seniors. It is designed for the growing number of students
engaged in tutoring, mentoring, and other kinds of service
programs on and off their campuses. It will enable students
to:
- deepen their understanding of the history and ethics of
philanthropy and volunteering;
- explore the role of philanthropy and voluntary service in
American society;
- gain first-hand experience through an extensive volunteer
internship experience with a local nonprofit organization;
- meet nationally prominent leaders in philanthropy and
voluntary service;
- identify opportunities for fulfilling careers in the
nonprofit sector.
Does this description make you think of particular students?
