Hi CS 352 Students,

You should be able to use this webpage to help determine your
processor and find+report further information on it:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/Default.aspx

the only useful info I get back from the cpuinfo command is

model name : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz

and on Intel's site there are 24 possible model numbers with the same
cache size as mine. Which one should I pick?

I don't know about the pentium 4, but on mine it lists  Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU          6300  @ 1.86GHz and each of the core 2 duos have a number so the 6300 helped identify mine. You should check to see if the pentium has that too.

Pick one consistent with what you can find out via /proc/cpuinfo,
whatever the other command Dr. Hunt gave is, and the memory mountain
from which you deduced the cache sizes.
