Hi CS 352 Students,
Overall, I was very pleased with your lab 4 reports. It's evident to
me that you all learned a lot more from lab 4 than students in past
years. The thoroughness of your research and ability to draw
connections between the technical specifications and what you observed
was impressive. Also, a lot of you were able to explain the meaning
of performance at particular stride sizes.
Some of you really need help with writing, be it grammar, spelling, or
just overall organization and style. You should check out the
Undergraduate Writing Center [
http://uwc.utexas.edu/]. As an
undergraduate, I used it for a few of my essays/papers and found it
really helpful.
With regards to grading, if you did what was expected, you got a 95.
In the past, I've been so impressed by some papers that I've awarded
bonus points. This year, I decided to just start at 95 and grade the
outstanding papers between 95 and 100. If you made below an 80, there
was probably something significantly wrong with what you wrote or
turned in. While I definitely did not want to read bologna and
redundant sentences, you needed to demonstrate a certain level of
depth. It didn't even really matter that much what you delved into,
so long as it was related. If you made between a 90 and 95, there was
probably just something small missing. I'll hand back the feedback
reports tonight.
The final exam will be difficult. Study hard. Come prepared to
demonstrate your proficiency in the course's material.
