Kip has asked me to coordinate the presenters for the northern monthly meeting.

For February, we only have 1 tentative presenter scheduled right now.  We need someone to present a n00b topic for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then 1 or 2 people to give full presentations.  about 30-50 minutes each.

Who would like to present this month?

Good chance to prep if you're speaking at code camp.

Anyone interested in some Angular topics?

I could give one or more of the following:

- Unit testing angular apps with Testacular (surprisingly awesome, but a little tricky to get set up)
- Writing custom directives (and unit testing them)
- Writing custom services (and unit testing them)
- Popular Angular add-ons: AngularUI, Angular-Strap
- Integrating jQuery animations with Angular

Crap. I have a conflict on Feb 19. Can you put me down for the March meeting if there's interest in the Angular topics I listed in my previous email?

you bet.  Thanks Dave.

Is anyone else interested in presenting this month?

And we still need a volunteer to do a 10 minute newbie talk.

UtahJS.com says the meeting is "Wed, Feb 19th," but the 19th is a Tuesday. Which is right?

Dave, We've recently switched to Angular from knockout and would also like to have these topics covered. (if not to learn then to discuss) If it's not too greedy of me I'd love open up our training center and schedule some brown bag lunches once a week or every other or what ever would be convenient for you.

Would anyone else be interested in coming if Dave was willing? I assume there are others who also have experience or could present to lessen he load perhaps. We could host about 80 people with 2 large projectors. We have cameras and could potentially use them to record/stream but we've not yet tried it.

Would anyone be interested in have these presentations and/or discussions during lunch time? We have a training room that can host up to 80 people, has 2 large screens and a microphone. (sorry, no turntables) We're located in Sandy at the Jordan Commons building at 9300 State st. (It's the same location used to host the SLC ruby users group)

If there is interest I will check the schedule next week and post what's available for the next few weeks.

Could we have the first one be more of an overview of angular? I am somewhat familiar with ember and backbone but not angular. Just my 2 cents. Other then that any of those topics are fine with me.

Joe,

Did you ever find another presenter? I could give a very cool live coding demo, if anyone would like. It is based on an event we had with the GDG Utah. We used Twilio to make and receive phone calls and then send and receive texts. It was pretty cool. Our own Merrick Christensen won second place.

Anywho... let me know. I am ready to do it, and if you let me know today, I might be able to get some tshirts and stickers.

Thanks!

So scheduling is going to be funky. There isn't a consistent day available for the lunch or afternoons. Any combination of the following days will work for lunch time 11:30-1:30:

Feb
14 Thurs
18 Mon
22 Fri
28 Thurs
Mar
14 Thurs
15 Fri
18 Mon
21 Thurs
22 Fri

Are there days that don't work for people? is once a week fine? or is twice?

I have been playing a lot with web workers at my job lately. I have put together an image scaling and other image processing algorithms that would show the power of web workers. If you'd like I could use them to do an intro presentation on web workers.

Ok, I've got our training center on the 14th and 28th from 11:30 - 1:30. It's bag lunch so bring or eat prior.

If there are no volunteers for an Angular overview (I think someone requested that) then lets plan on:

Thursday 14th - Eric B Angular with Yeoman
Thursday 28th - Dave S TBA

We can talk about the future dates and presentations.

The utahjs.com page has been updated with this month's North Meeting agenda.

We have Seth House presenting on Functions, combinators, and decorators in JavaScript and then AJ ONeal will present on indexdb, websql, local storage.

We still need someone to present a newbie topic for 10 minutes.
Can someone volunteer to do a quick presentation on one of the following:
Using Dates
Converting types
Prototypes
Anything else introductory

Bret Little,  we'll probably have you present probably next month.  How long will you need?

Right now we are planning on 1 presentation at each meeting because that is what has been volunteered. I suspect the presentations won't go the full 2 hours. We will likely give the presenter a bit of time to eat first. As for any remaining time we can chat, have a Q&A, lightening talks or unscheduled presentations. It can be what we'd like to make of it. All offers to present will be accepted and rescheduled if time doesn't allow. Hopefully we can self organize and keep it interesting.

Sounds like custom directives are going to be the winner for the presentation on the 28th.

I'll start preparing. In the mean time, you can prepare yourselves with this article that actually gives a decent intro to directives, and yet still goes pretty in depth: http://thesmithfam.org/blog/2012/12/17/communicating-between-directives-in-angularjs/

At the presentation we'll also write some unit tests on our directive and run them in Testacular, which if you haven't seen before, it's downright impressive.

Looking forward to it!
