Well, the venue search isn't going very well right now. I have calls
in to every possible place I can think of, but could use a fresh set
of suggestions. I have found a couple of places that would work, but
we are talking a HUGE raise in cost. It would easily double the ticket
price if not more. I need to know what people are thinking on this
one. Let me know.

Have you looked into UVU? Our school uses their facilities on
occasion.

I have a call into them. Their scheduling person is in and out of the
office due to pneumonia so they haven't been quick in getting back to
me.

How about North of Utah, it might be less expensive to get out of SLC,
perhaps Layton? Weber State in Ogden? ( yes, I have a biased
opinion, living in Pleasant View ;)

I have been in contact with Weber State as well. They are looking to
get back to me on available dates. I am a little nervous moving the
convention outside of Salt Lake City proper. I worry that I will lose
people by going too far north or south. What are people's opinions on
this. If you are a current Utah County or further south resident would
you travel to Weber. And likewise, if you are a current Davis/Weber
County resident or someone further north would you travel to Utah
county? It is likely the price per ticket will go up slightly for
either Weber or UVU. The University of Utah's rates are just
unbelievably good. I don't think either of these venues would increase
the price a lot, but I won't know for sure until I can hammer out all
the details with them. I do know at Weber we would get some extended
hours, so likely a little earlier opening on Saturday and later
closing times both days.

Personally I'm much more interested in keeping the costs down and getting the date to me early than worrying about whether it is in Ogden or Provo.  I will attend any day on Saturday regardless of where it is held.  I would probably attend Friday also in Salt Lake or Ogden.

Well UVU is out of the running. Their pricing is insane, and they
wouldn't let us come anyway. Some pretty crazy policies. So right now
Weber (if they come through with open dates) is probably in the front
running. If anyone else has ideas of where to look let me know.

I'm with Brent, but just the opposite. I'll attend Saturday wherever,
Friday is iffy if I have to drive to Ogden. Somewhere in Utah County
and I'll be there both days.

Sorry to be the dissenting opinion, but I would probably shy away from
driving anywhere out of the Salt Lake area for the Con. Well, I loved
going so much last year I would surely make it out 1 day out of the
2!

Anyway, I am not sure if this has been asked yet but, is the Saltair
Room at the U not available at all during the summer, or just for the
same date we did last year? I wouldn't mind the Con being on a
different weekend or something, with enough notice I would be happy to
plan on a different set of dates.

In any case, thanks for taking the initiative on this Ryan. I have
been racking my brain trying to think of other places. I would
suggest my own school (Westminster College) but I'm not even sure if
we have a venue big enough to fit a Con! well, maybe our gymnasium,
hehe...

keep us posted,

Chris

Hello all. I am a member of the Ogden Board Game Group (with Brent),
and I work at Weber State. I am in the process of starting a board
game club at Weber, and I discovered that campus clubs get a discount
rate on Ballrooms. I found that someone was looking for available
space at Weber for board gaming here since I am responsible for
setting up the new event scheduling software for the campus.

Clubs also get special funding for events.

With club pricing, I can get a ballroom for $50 a day, and up to $400
dollars of funding provided we can show proof of learning potential
for students at the event.

I can also get funding for on campus posters, and make sure all the
online bulletin boards have announcements. Maybe even a radio spot on
the campus radio station.

Just an idea.

Also, Ryan, I just spoke to the events scheduling department and asked
them to push your request for dates up in their list of priorities.
Let me know if you need any help.

Well, if you search through board game geek, you will find a lot of
posts where people have talked about how games are educational so they
can get board games included in school curriculum. I think this
sounds great, even though being in Ogden makes it a long way for us.
This is much cheaper than anyone else is probably going to find. I
say let's go for it!

I have been talking with Cory, and it looks like Weber is by far our
best bet. He is going to finish checking into some dates and we will
let people know.

I could use some help if anyone knows any students currently enrolled
at WSU. In order to start an official club, I need 10 students to
register. So, if you know any have them contact me at ext 7654 on
campus!

I'm new here but excited for this event! If it is at Weber I would
probably only make it for one day though since I have to drive from
Utah County. But I say go for Wever since it is inexpensive.

I would pay more to have it closer to my home. Ogden is too far away.

Hehehe, touche (sp?)

I've just enjoyed it so much in the past and was reacting to thoughts
of not attending this year...it's painful!
