When you've played around the internet for several years you think you
know and seen it all. But the other day my mom, who is a beginner on
the World Wide Web, showed me something new. If you lived in Miami,
Hialeah or any part of South Florida I'm sure you've seen those small,
free, weekly classified newspapers found on wire racks near the exit
of your favorite Hispanic food market/bakeries like a Sedanos's or
Navarro, collecting dust. These newspapers have no stories just ads
for things like bankruptcy attorneys, divorce lawyers, mixed in with
ads for plumbers, handyman and Santeria Botanicas ( just in case you
don't know about Santeria, these are places for voodoo and
witchcraft). What amazed me is that my mom, an avid shopper,
discovered www.losclasificado.com , it's an online version of these
classified newspaper. You get the same truckload of ads but you can
forget about having to wrestle with it to get it open, holding the
thing like a huge wing (loudly flapping) in front of you, browsing the
ads across sections, then trying to get it to go back together a bit
so you can go to the next page...not to mention how the ink rubs off
on your fingers and clothes. I think it's a great idea designed for
Hispanics that are slowly coming online, and enjoy the similarities
with the paper version, including a cool feature like virtual page
flipping. www.losclasificado.com is building a site for Hispanics
with modern feel and Old World appeal, not to mention they average
about 150,000 readers every week. Tell your folks about it , I'm sure
they will enjoy it ...Fina

I was hoping that this story would somehow lead to something baking
related, but it doesn't seem to have. I'm a tad disappointed.

This is the same guy who spammed us back in June. At that time I found
that he had sent the same message to a bunch of Google Groups. I think
he's just trying to get links to his site from Google. Any way we can
block him?

Agreed. He has been banned. If he would have just posted something
relevant, I wouldn't have minded him trying to plug his site.

In the spirit of relevant topics and plugging people's sites, I should
note that Amano finally has their chocolate available in the stores
and online:

http://www.amanochocolate.com/

I scored a couple of bars yesterday, and I must say, I'm impressed.
Both are very fruity, though the Madagascar is more fruity and the
Ocumare is a little more floral. I'll be posting a review on my own
site shortly, but I can recommend it now. I'm hoping he gets some more
varieties soon. It's a really nice, high-end chocolate. Here's hoping
he brings some samples with him to the next Baker's Dozen meeting.

Speaking of the next meeting, rumor has it we're looking at May. I'm
going to try and get ahold of Letty and see if we have anything more
concrete.
