August 8, 1999: The Lycaeum's home page has been blackened in protest of the
actions currently being taken by our fascist leaders. The Methamphetamine
Anti-Proliferation Act of 1999, led by Senators Hatch and Feinstein, would
effectively end free speech on the Internet under the guise of protecting
people from methamphetamine. Publishing unapproved drug information on the
Internet will become a felony, punishable by up to ten years in a federal
prison. Simply linking to a web site containing drug information will also
become a crime. This is an obvious attempt at suppressing the truth in a war
where disinformation and outright lies are the government's main tools. If
this bill becomes law, sites such as the Lycaeum and Erowid will be outlawed
in the USA, and the door to further censorship on the Internet and elsewhere
in America will be wide open.
We urge everyone, regardless of opinion regarding drug use, to contact their
legislators and protest this blatant disregard of human rights. Let them
know that the Hatch-Feinstein legislation is unconstitutional and
fundamentally wrong.
We at the Lycaeum are dedicated to providing truthful information. We have
faith that in the end, Truth shall prevail and the war crimes currently
being perpetrated by our government will come to an end.
