I am hoping to do a self-supported week or 2-week road bike trip next summer. I will be running tubeless on 28 or 32mm tires.

When I get a flat, I try to just add sealant and reinflate. I usually do not lose the bead. BUT, if I do lose your bead, then I must use a tube. So to get back to tubeless during a long trip, short of going to a bike shop, will a Co2 re-inflate or not? Clearly, the new tiny e-pumps do not have enough gusto to reset the bead. Other ideas so I am not forced to using tubes the rest of the time?

Best,

A Co2 will definitely seat the bead!

On last year’s Rise to Rails ride someone had a flat and lost the bead. I personally witnessed someone reset it with a mini-pump. But it’s entirely possible they just got lucky.

I really wouldn't bother trying to reseat while on tour, tubes still work pretty well.
I've had a tubeless failure during 2 of my 4 1200k's, and my mistake both times was waiting too long to put a tube in.
For anybody who hasn't seen, I've attached a picture of a staple INSIDE my tire from July during Humboldt Coast 1200k. I finally stopped and put a tube in and that had been solid until I got that flat coming down Emi in Sept, when I added sealant to the tub and I'm still riding that tire with a tube with sealant, even though I've been home (with a compressor) for months. I suppose I will re-do it to be tubeless some time during the winter.

I got a gash during our 400k this year in Logan that wouldn't seal, so I super glued it and that held fine, so my first line of defense is always super glue. (Just have to remember to restock when I run out of super glue, whoops :D)
