For those of you not ready for a Super 600 (as mentioned by Ken in another thread), we recently got a new 600K route approved, which starts in Brigham City. It dovetails with a 300 and 400K found on this page. I would like to ride the 600 before the end of our season. We could add all the distances on the calendar if desired.

I am looking at August 2-3rd (assuming we can get that date approved quickly) or the 30-31st. Anyone want to join me?

Cheers,
Richard Stum

Richard , unfortunately I don’t have the legs to do a 600k on the 2nd but if someone wants to do a 100k popular I can do that, at least. The other time slot has me up at Bear Lake, or something similar.

I think I could do the 600k if it was the 30-31st

Shoot, I just realized that the 30-31st is Labor Day weekend and had plans to be in Washington state. It looks like Sept. 6-7th is it for me.

The 7th is LOTOJA but I imagine you’ll avoid the road closures for the racecourse. You might run into support vehicles with nuts at the wheel though? Cheers  Rando.

Oh man, I forgot about that. Our route will not overlap their route on Saturday. On Friday, we do go into Cache Valley, but they are not racing that day.

I have added the 300/400/600k Bear River brevets to the RUSA calendars for Friday Sept 6. Please let me know if you'd like to ride or pre-ride any of those distances.

Hi Ken,

I'm thinking about the 600- Any concerns if I ride it in the velomobile?

Also, on the results page, it shows I live in California, not Colorado. And, seems I should have a recumbent symbol next to my time for the 400k I rode.

Best,

Jim

Jim or others,

I plan to pre-ride the 600, starting on the Friday the 23rd. I already have motel reservations there at the start. If the weather looks bad, I may push it to start on Monday the 26th. Any company is welcome though my moving speed will be sluggish.

I will let Ken tune in about velomobile usage, but I will say ride with caution in Blacksmith Fork (canyon) at mile 38, but hopefully that canyon will be less busy as it will be in the morning. And then at about mile 150, that highway can be busy, and has some nasty chipseal. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40669583

Best,
Rando Richard

Yes, Jim, I agree with Richard's assessment, my only concern would be Blacksmith Fork. No shoulder and twisty roads, but traffic should be low and that's a popular cycling route so drivers there are mostly very courteous. Most of the rest of the roads would be great for a velomobile, no shoulder but very low traffic and gentle rolling climbs.

Thanks for the info. Also, it looks like the 9/6-7 weekend is Peach Days, which might explain why it seems a lot of the hotel rooms are filled, and I'm guessing will also ensure a busier than usual city scene, at least in Brigham City...need to think some more on this one.

Lotoja is September 7th.  It starts in Logan.   It may impact availability of rooms in Logan.   I wouldn't expect the impact to go all the way to Brigham City, but who knows.

I'm doing the Lotoja, as I have for the last 8 years or so.  I've never had to go all the way to Brigham City for a room.  I expect the roads will be busy on Saturday morning near Logan and to the north.

Fortunately, our route stays out of Cache Valley on Saturday.

Are you gonna have a better time this year on LoToJa due to your increased fitness (post 1200k year) and improved body physique!

That's my plan!

(Staying out of Cache Valley on Saturday will make it a better 600.)
