Matthew Lefthand, from Utah, is racing at Sebring, on a bent. He is hoping to hammer out 1,000km (622 miles) in 24 hours for a new course record. He is now a few hours past the 12-hour mark, and has done 366 miles thus far. The race ends tomorrow at 0700 EST.

Cheers,

He did not meet his goal, though he still set a bunch of new records; it sounds like he had some issues with his shoes, pedals and fit. Here is an interesting rundown on his splits, which were nearly as high of power output during the second half as the first:

Incredible effort.

Was this a recumbent-specific event?

No, it was a combination of upright, recumbent, drafted as well as non-drafted. Six, 12 and 24 hour.
His category was 24 hour non-drafted in bent.
