[Got smart this time and made a more generic subject line. :) ]

I'm tentatively heading up for the 300k (my room is booked, so it's more "likely" than "tentative"), but again this time, I don't know a soul up in that area. So, it would be really nice if there would be an on-call rescue SAG, or other neutral support, available.

Actually looking forward to this, weather permitting, since it will be my first 300 since, gulp, 2010, and enough of the route is "new to me," at least on the bike, that it'll be interesting. That hill leading up to Golden Spike looks formidable, though -- I've driven it and, even then, noted its steepness. :)

When Byron had a tire problem on our last 400K he called Uber. But I’m not sure how practical that would be in southern Idaho being so rural.... then that is also the beauty of the route!

It doesn't look so bad on paper - maybe 2mi, 5.5% - but if the sun is out on a warm day, there is absolutely nowhere to clip out and take a short break out of the sun. There's nothing to do but push on towards the Visitors Center!

I've mentioned to Richard that I can do emergency sag work, if called. My phone # 801 791 6442 will be on the cue sheet. Wishing you all the best. peter...@gmail.com

So, about that weather forecast. I know we're all "seasoned" riders who have "seen it all," but I know I'm at least mildly anxious about dealing with possible/likely thunderstorms. The various weather websites all seem to agree that it *will* rain across our entire route all the way up to Malad, but not continuously, and probably not heavily except in isolated spots, which appears to be most likely at higher elevations. Thunderstorms, however, especially the intense monsoonal type that these could be, are another story. (Look at the damage in Cedar City this week!)

I've been going back and forth on this all day, but I'm still planning to drive up there Friday unless the forecast takes a serious turn for the worse. I'm interested in hearing what the other riders are thinking.

As of right now Dark Skies projects a little more than 1/10th of an inch of rain in Brigham City, Plymouth, at Golden Spike, and a few other locations along the route. I suppose it’s possible that it could all come down at once, but the risk of wild thunderstorms like those that have hit other parts of Utah lately seems low. I’ll be there unless the forecast changes quite a bit.

I watched a violent storm roll thru last night and had the same thoughts. These are fast moving storms so I think the main thing will be to be aware and seek shelter to wait out any bad storm cells rather than trying to ride thru if it gets bad.

Thanks, all. That's roughly the same line of thinking I've got, but I wanted to sanity-check myself to make sure I wasn't making a stupid decision before driving 750 miles round-trip. :)

The forecast has improved ever so slightly since last night, so that's encouraging. Looks like the biggest chance for ride-disrupting storms might be, inconveniently enough, around the time the 300k riders will be leaving Malad and climbing Hwy. 36, one of the parts of the route that will be new to me. Street View seems to suggest there are a few farm/ranch outbuildings that could provide emergency shelter if needed.
