Greetings All,

Earlier this spring, while most of you were riding 2, 3, 4s and 600s, I was still in skimo mode (backcountry skiing) due to our banner snowpack. So I missed out. But the ski season is finally over and I'd like to squeeze in at least a 300K sometime before the autumn chill hits us.

How about August 12th or September 2nd? A northern route out of Brigham City perhaps.

Currently there are no 300K permanents in Utah (though I could submit one, but I would rather ride with a small group if possible).

Regards,
Richard Stum

Early Sept sounds good to me Richard, totally flexible on the route, whatever works best for you.

Richard,
I would love to do the Wasatch Back super 200 km. I have started it twice but had to bail both times with mechanical or weather issues. Would  that be a possibility on your suggested dates?

Another option could be to do your dirt Rando's on the group website.

Cheers,
Hoyt

Ok, I've added a RUSA-sanctioned 300k brevet for Saturday Sept 2, starting at 6:30 AM in Brigham City. This is the Bear River / Cache Valley route.

If you'd like to ride this brevet, please send me a message and I'll add you to the roster spreadsheet.

Pete LeCain is more of a 200k distance rider these days. If you do the 300k out of Brigham City I’d join you, with an abandoned plan in place. My plan is to stay retired and ride more! Please let me know via the stream.

Ok Pete, I have also added the 200k as an option for Sept 2.
The route is:
so it shares the first 83 miles with the 300k route.

I won’t be able to make 9/2 but if anyone is interested in the Monte Cristo route later in the month, I’d be interested.

Hoyt...we do have some gravel brevets down near Delta: both a 100K and 200K (Pony Express Trail). I believe we need to "recertify" them as gravel routes, so we can get extra time allotments. That is something Ken would do. Those might be good late Sept or possibly Oct routes. The difficult Wasatch Back route was designed after one sponsored by BCC, where we would "dovetail" onto their route and ride it "with them" but I am not sure when they plan to ride it this year or perahps they already have.  We could shorten it a little and do our own thing, but that is for the faint of heart.

Peter, it would be great to have you along for any distance.

Brady...which Monte Cristo route? Gravel near Bear Lake? It seems Ken and others rode that one year and it had deep ATV ruts making for a "not so fun" event.

Thanks Ken, for the additional 200k! Blacksmith Fork is a perennial favorite of mine-Pete

I was unaware of prior experiences with the Monte Cristo route, so I’ll defer to the group on that one. The Pony Express routes look great too.

Yes, the Monte Cristo route is really great in June after the snow has compacted the clay road, but by now the ATVs have likely chewed up Curtis Creek road making it a really tough slog. I'd be game for riding it.

The BCC Big Ride is Aug 19 and I plan to ride that with them as a BCC event (I am also a member of BCC and ride with them sometimes when it fits into my schedule).
Details for the BCC ride:  https://bccutah.org/rides/2425

Good to know about the Monte Cristo route. My usual brevet bike can handle 50mm tires if I take the fenders off. I also have a drop bar mountain bike that goes to 2.4 inches, if anyone wants to give that route a late season shot.

I did the Ant Flatts, Hardware Ranch, Curtis Creek and Monte Route 2 weeks ago and it was in decent shape, but it had rained 2 nights before. I have done it later in the year and there has been 2-3" of silt covering the road. Making the route dangerous from hidden rocks and impossible to breath when any vehicle passed. My preferred route is CW, so you aren't descending for hours on washboard and rocks.

This season I am experimenting with some treatments for a medical issue that has been sidelined for the past few seasons. So far, so good. I did a 300K permanent yesterday, so now I am encouraged and would prefer to do a 400K on Sept. 2nd "to test the waters," but there are no 400s starting in Brigham City. But, we could create one, either as a permanent or possibly as a new brevet. Is anyone interested in joining me? I expect a 400 would take me 20-22 hours, maybe less if the dynamics of a group or partner work out.

Cheers,

Nice.

I am tinkering with the idea of submitting a 400 K version of the Bear River 300 K for approval as a permanent and riding that on the 2nd instead of the 300 K brevet...but I would prefer an earlier start, i.e. 0500. Anyone else interested in such a start time (with Ken's blessing)?

I really struggled on the BCC Big Ride yesterday, so I won't be up for a 400k but I'm planning on riding the 300k Sept 2. I'm fine with starting whenever. Probably the 200k riders wouldn't want to start that early, but I'll let them chime in.
