From JLE (Colo.):
RUSA is offering a $5 discount for the week of 3/8 - 3/14. Maybe the nudge that would get a friend to try out randonneuring?  Dawn's note below has details.

Hi, I have a quick question. I noticed that the calendar goes out to June, are there going to be any events in the second half of the year?

Thank you!

Hi Taylor and others,

Historically, after the full series is over, interest in our region waines for some unknown reason. But personally, I would welcome some later events; I would volunteer as a trail boss, if that would be helpful in extending the season.

Best,
Richard Stum

I'd support some late summer/fall events, as someone who always has trouble fitting the spring series into my schedule.

That makes sense. I have been off my bike for a year and I’m not confident I’d be in the right condition to make any of the spring ones. If there were any later in the year I would definitely be interested!

Hi Taylor, yes we can add more brevets later on in the season. What timeframe and distances would you be interested in? Any specific routes or areas? Anybody else feel free to chime in as well.
We have SLR members riding overseas or in other states in July, August, and September, distances of 1200k, 1500k, and 1700k so we'll need to keep our skills sharp!

Those are some impressive distances! I would love to shoot for a 300k, but I think 200k would be more in my comfort zone. August/September and really until it gets too snowy is ideal for me! I’d love something in northern Utah or central Heber area!

Another thing to remember is that we have many Permanents in our regioin (these are routes that are permanently available to ride all year long). So if any random member wants to just say "hey, let's do a 200 this weekend" and propose a given route, you might have some takers. Aside from the annual membership fee, there is a nominal annual fee to ride them (to cover insurance). I believe it is $10.00 a year. Other regions in the USA do that frequently.

My tentative plan is to do 200/300/400k this spring and then go to the Front Range for the Poudre Canyon 600k in early September, assuming all goes well. Would be nice to spare myself that drive, but if there’s not enough interest for a big fall ride I’d participate in a 200/300k as well.

You should really look into Hoodoo 500! There is a 300 mile one or a stage of the 500. You can also do teams.

It’s such a great event with wonderful organization.

I know you are talking rando and brevets, so I don’t mean to be off base, but the event is really worth mentioning.

Best,

Matthew

I’ve done the Hoodoo 300 and I would absolutely recommend it as well!

For those that would prefer to enjoy all the spectacular beauty of the Hoodoo 500 route, but are not interested in a race, Planet Ultra also offers a "Tour of Southern Utah" which is essentially the Hoodoo 500 plus additional time in Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef and Brian Head. You would have time to see much more of the parks than while in the races. It's one of the most beautiful routes I've ever ridden! Highly recommended.
