I'm not sure how much people have already been following or discussing
this, so I thought I'd mention it here.

There's an awesome looking documentary coming out soon called, "Indie
Game: The Movie", which is, as you might imagine, an indie-produced
documentary about indie game development. They interview a pretty good
number of indie game devs from many well-known projects, such as
Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes (Super Meat Boy), Jonathan Blow and
David Hellman (Braid), Ron Carmel (World of Goo), Derek Yu (Aquaria),
Jason Rohrer (Passage), and Jenova Chen (Flower), among many others.
It was a successful Kickstarter project, too. The trailer looks slick,
and you can check it out and much more at:

They have been soliciting requests for local screenings for some time
now, and I submitted a request a few months back. I don't know if
anyone else here in the Salt Lake area did as well, but I wanted to
mention it in case people were thinking about it. They got back to me
and thought they could maybe set one up in the spring at the earliest.

Turns out the movie is so well done that it was selected as a finalist
for the Sundance festival in Park City next month, so we'll have a
chance to see it then! I contacted them to see if we could set up a
separate screening in Salt Lake City around that time, since they'll
already be here in Utah, but I haven't heard back yet. If not, we
could either try to organize a group outing to see it at the Sundance
festival, or wait until they're willing to come back to Utah for a
separate screening (similar to the GET LAMP documentary screening I
organized at Brewvies last year). I'll keep the group updated on what
I hear from them, but if anyone else has already contacted them for
this, please let me know, as I wouldn't want to duplicate efforts.

I'm looking forward to this one!

I've also been in touch with directors to set up a screening for IGDA
SLC and Utah Indie Games Night (combined). Stay tuned...

Cool, thanks Shane. Let me know if you hear anything back from them, and
I'll do likewise.

Well done gentlemen. I haven't followed this recently, but the
possibility of a fairly local screening definitely has me excited.

I did finally hear back from the movie folks, and it doesn't look like
a special showing in Utah will be possible during or immediately after
the Sundance festival. They're not allowed to show the film outside
the festival until after February 2, and by then they will be back
home in Winnipeg for their hometown preview.
They did mention including us as part of their bigger tour later in
the year, but it's hard to say when that might be, as they've had
thousands of requests for screenings.
I'm trying to get Sundance tickets to see it during the festival, but
those are hard to come by.
Another option is that I should be receiving a copy of the movie on
DVD once they release it (again, not sure exactly when), so we can
look into a screening here for everyone, just without the directors
present.
