I apologize that I got the time wrong in my email a few moments ago. At least it gives me the chance to increase visibility by starting a new thread.

The meeting next Friday will be at 12AM at the Riverton Office.

I updated the invite at Meetup.com:

If anyone is interested in attending through the Internet, then please let us know. It is usually possible for James to set something up, but he needs advance notice.

I hope to see you there!

Richard

Though there were only a few of us in attendance, we enjoyed the presentation by Kyle Shepherdson on his project at BYU.

BYU is using Alfresco three main projects, and evaluating its use in 5 new initiatives. They hope to eventually have 50 TB of content managed by their repositories.

Kyle spent the last six months exposing Alfresco as a storage provider in their internal general purpose development framework.
* Using 4.0.c,
* The framework is a 3 tier, MVC platform written in C. Is is 10 years old,
* The framework is accessible via XML or JSONp RESTful web services,
* Uses Alfresco when storing images, movies, PDFs, and documents,
* Alfresco accessed using CMIS via curl,
* Documents categorized by type and page number,
* Downloads via webdav, authentication via CAS ticket,
* GUI interface is done through a custom Java struts front-end which needs to mimic DB front-end,
* Deployed custom webscripts to optimize responses as well as process data in the background,
* Alfresco is now implemented, but client developers have not put it into production use yet.

Their future plans include:
* Building portfolios of different types of images using Alfresco.
* Build disposition schedules for images of student records. They currently save everything forever, and want to start a controlled destruction of records.

We also discussed some Alfresco News:
* The new CEO,
* An update on DevCon preparations,
* Discussed the public API,
* Discussed the new forums, and the IRC channel.

We plan on having another meeting in about six months. James thinks he can arrange the room for us again.

Let us know if you would like to attend!

Richard
