hello,
hope everyone's having a terrific holiday season. i am hoping that bringing up the following a second time is going to see some traction. we have a vibrant, growing, skill-wise improving squash community in Austin. it would be in all of our best interests to experience competitive squash on a regular basis. the best way to ensure that is through the box league. there is no reason to not have a constant box league all year around.

i think we could easily make this happen if the league were run by community members - and not at the mercy of revolving students, who are distracted for good reason. Willie and i (Willie the admin, me the tech person) are volunteering to set up a system where we nearly constantly have a box league competition going. please let us know if anyone disagrees with this. if not, Willie is going to track down the admin p/w to US squash and the google group. once we have the keys to the kingdom, we can ensure that we all get competitive, diverse matches on a regular basis.
please let us know if you disagree with any of the above. thank you,
peter

One thing I've seen in other cities that works really well are a dedicated round-robin night. It's often something like first Monday of the month from 6-8pm. It's a great way for new people to come meet potential squash partners, and an easy way to get some games in without having to schedule / commit in advance. Obviously, it works best for clubs with more courts... Has this ever happened at UT?

I don't mean this in any way to contradict Peter's box league idea, I think that's great too!

Round robins are brilliant, and complement box leagues super well. However, they provide near no flexibility to those w complicated schedules. Also, they don’t provide a competitive environment, where the match “really matters” - you know what i mean 😉

Does anyone know who has the keys to US squash and to this mailing list?

Hi Peter,

This is great. I have all (most) of the information you might need. I can meet sometime over this/next weekend to hand over the details. I don't know if Karim is in town but we absolutely should include him in the process as he has been doing this for sometime now after taking over from me.

Fantastic, thank you, Pranav. I’ll start a thread with Karim, you, Willie, I.

This thread is going to hear back from Willie and I with sign up for a mid-January league sign up.

Super exciting to start a consistent, year around league again!

It would be great if we could get a hold of this and get some momentum behind it.

I really like the round robin idea, we talked about this in the past but it didn't go anywhere. We do this at Liftetime and it works.     You already can't book a court early morning Sat / Sun - why don't we collectively set both mornings to RR before you can reserve a court?   Folks show up and put your rackets in front of each court, each two players play 2 games, then rotate out, winner gets the option to put his/her racket back up first.  If there are enough players of different skills we can split up the courts beg/int | adv.
