Background values

Does anyone know how to get the background values on the pats cabin dems to not display??? I've tried everything.  PLLLLEEEAASSSE??

Not sure what the background values are... could you put the symbology to classified and then make the categories you don't want to see transparent?
Or dim the entire layer by displaying at 70% transparent or something?  You've probably already thought of these ideas.

I figured it out.  I had to check the background box and then enter an extremely long number that I got using the identify tool on the background.  Not sure why no one else ran into this problem.  I was using the 2010 pats cabin dem that was provided for the lab.  o well! Thank you for responding :)
