In February, a fan remake of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic being built using Epic's Unreal Engine surfaced online. Now, the first in-game video of the project, which is being called Apeiron, has been released, and it looks rather good.
The video, which was exclusively given to YouTube user MrMattyPlays, shows off a number of environments from the game including Lower City Taris, Endar Spire, Anchorhead on Tatooine, and Upper City Taris. Check it out above.
MrMattyPlays notes that the footage represents a game "in a very early state of development, pre-alpha." Aspects such as material, lighting, and meshes are still being worked on, and there are some placeholder assets too.
Additionally, the perspective used in the video is first-person, which is a change from the original game. Although the third-person view will also be available, the developer behind the fan-remake has said it intends to introduce some new elements to the BioWare classic to modernize it.
"While Apeiron is a remake of Knights of the Old Republic we also wanted to add things that the original didn't have. One of those things is giving the player a choice to switch between first and third-person," game director Taylor Trotter previously told GameSpot. "The functionality is already in the game, and the player simply has to press their [F] key to change the POV."
Apeiron is being developed by indie gaming group Poem Studios with help from fans of the Star Wars RPG. The team has posted pictures of areas Endar Spire and Tatooine, and you can see them for yourself below.
According to Poem Studios it is allowed to make a remake of BioWare's game, which was published by EA, but it can't sell it. That means when the remake releases, it'll be free. It has indicated it may accept donations towards the development effort in the future.

The run-time is similar to the modern-day movies as it's comfortably over two hours but despite the enjoyment fans got from it, it ultimately failed at the box office. The Forever Knight wears metal armor partially inspired by medieval European knights. It is augmented with alien technology that affords him great maneuverability and speed that would otherwise be inhibited by the clunkiness of the armor. When damaged, the yellow strips of light fade and turn off. He has yellow lighting on his helmet, and he wears a red cape along with his armor. He also bears the Forever Knight symbol on his chest, resembling the classic Forever Knights. Beneath his mask, his host is a Caucasian man with no facial hair.
The Forever Knight is brash and arrogant. He spies on Team Tennyson and their many enemies, including Simon Sez, Charmcaster, Vin Ethanol, Billy Billions, and Kevin Levin, deciding which ones are worthy enough to join his cause.
Forever Knight's goal is to go back in time and prevent alien signals from contacting Earth. Throughout Season 3, he tests Team Tennyson's enemies to determine those he needs for this goal. He needed Ben and Kevin to power his time gateway due to both of them having Kineceleran forms in their Omnitrixes, Charmcaster to stabilize the portal with her magic, Vin Ethanol to monitor Ben and Kevin's progress, Billy Billions to provide his drones as security, and Simon Sez to help activate the gateway.
Forever Knight offered a chance to make Kevin better. Kevin turned down the Knights offer twice until he threatened Gwen. Out of all Forever Knight's recruits Kevin is assigned the most missions. Kevin seems himself as one of Forever Knight's best recruits and made the Knight popular by creating a video cam of him during their partnership.
Forever Knight did not hesitate to try and take Kevin out after he disobeyed him.[4] He also did not worry about harming Kevin when raising the steaks during a gladiatorial fight between Kevin and Ben.[5]
While they are in a time portal, the Knight demands Kevin to make himself useful for once and bring him Ben. Kevin then sacrifices getting trapped in time by kicking the Knight through the time portal, leading them both somewhere unknown.
Forever Knight kept a constant watch of Ben, manipulating him through a series of events. Similar to Kevin, Forever Knight required Ben's unique abilities to enact his plan. However, this would require him to cause a rift between he and his family.
The Forever Knight has been watching Ben Tennyson ever since the beginning of the series. He first appeared in Omni-Copped, when he instructs Steam Smythe to intercept the Tennysons and observes his defeat at the hands of Ben.
In Don't Touch, the Forever Knight battled Ben over a katana only to get his helmet damaged and knocked over the horizon by Humungousaur. The Knight appeared to be smiling at the exact moment Humungousaur threw him off far away with his tail, possibly showing that he was trying to see if Ben was worthy of being recruited.
In Welcome to Zombozo-Zone!, Zombozo tried to impress the Forever Knight in hopes of joining up with him. The Knight remarks that Zombozo was never a king as the latter is arrested, suggesting that he has no intention of bringing Zombozo into his team.
In Bridge Out, the Forever Knight orchestrated a traffic jam by forming a blockade. After Simon was stopped, the Knight called off the blockade, knowing that Simon can be useful; Simon would eventually join the Knight off-screen.
In Buggy Out, the Forever Knight sent Kevin to steal the Rustbucket for its technology, though the boy ended up failing due to interference from Ben and Glitch. Kevin then attempted to use Glitch to run over the Tennysons, forcing the Knight to attack Kevin in retaliation, though his jetpack as blasted by Heatblast.
In Forever Road, the Forever Knight offered to help LaGrange by giving him a remote that would sabotage Ben's transformations and orchestrated a race in the desert in which the victor would become the next member of his team. Although the remote was destroyed and LaGrange was defeated, the Knight was able to instead recruit Vin Ethanol in the racer's place.
In The Bentathlon, the Forever Knight abducts the Tennysons and has Ben fight against Iron Kyle, Queen Bee, the Alien Chef trio, the Ground Hawg Gang, and Kevin in a series of gladiatorial matches. Ben is ultimately the victor of each and every fight and is rescued by Gwen and Max.
In Roundabout: Part 1, Ben finally joins the Forever Knight out of having enough of Gwen and Max refusing to trust him, to Kevin's confusion. With his assembled team, Forever Knight infiltrates a laboratory in Switzerland and constructs a time gateway. Ben is chosen to accompany the Knight after he defeats Kevin, Charmcaster, and Billions. When Gwen, Max, and Phil came to the lab in search of Ben, the Knight has the rest of his team deal with them while he and Ben venture through time.
In Roundabout: Part 2, Ben immediately turns on Forever Knight out of not wanting the Knight to prevent the Omnitrix from making its way to Earth. Forever Knight overpowers Ben while fighting him in Ancient Egypt, Renaissance Italy, and Max and Phil's youth. However, Forever Knight's plan ultimately fails due to interference from Gwen (who followed them to help Ben) and Kevin (who is interested in payback for the Knight neglecting him). Pursing the children through a time portal leading towards the present, Kevin sacrifices himself to trap the Knight. Sometime after the Tennysons and company leave Switzerland, Forever Knight's helmet comes out of the still-open time gateway.
