Team Race PCCs Report

Team SYC Sideshow, Anthony Boscolo, Jen Glass, Dalton Bergan, Lindsey Bergan, Andrew Loe and Mallory Fontenot, takes the win at the PCCs and a US Team Racing Champ berth. Seattle Yacht Club hosted the event for the first time using their new fleet of V 15s and US Sailing’s colored Team Race Sails. Team Rainier Bears took second and third went to the Cali Crushers.
We sailed 90 races in eighteen V15s, completing 3 round robins with the 8 teams. The regatta ended with a final four rotation that we finished at 5:30 Sunday evening with winds in the low teens. The second and third rotations were weighted double and three points were earned for each win in the final four.
With temperatures in the mid 70s and winds from 5-15 we raced in the best weather Seattle has had this year. Lake Union was full of boats most of which came by to watch some racing. The wind filled at 10:45 both days and built into the sub-teens by 3pm. Saturday saw regular 40 degree oscillations providing for interesting racing. Sunday was a bit less stable with some bigger shifts causing 1 race to be abandoned, but the day ended with the best wind of the event with a strong steady 12-15 knot Northerly.
The events was run with a small group of volunteers and staff lead by PRO Leslie Keller and event Chairman Ben Glass, but it would not have been possible without the help of Charlie Rathkopf, Greg Jackson, Maddie Jackson, Andi Pistay, Dayna Zimmerman, Brian Watkins, Matt Pistay and Kimberly Frost. Thanks to Eddie Bauer for help with the trophies. Super special thanks go to Sail Orcas, especially Burke Thomas who loaned us six V15s and extra RC gear.
With full umpiring lead by ChUmp Rick Hatch every match started with at least 2 umpire boats. Many thanks top the complete umpire team: Dave Pyron, Betsy Altman, John Lee, John Christman, Bill Mains, Charlie Macaulay, Vicki Sodaro, Mike Turner and Jared Hickman. The umpires also lead well attended and long debriefs for which the competitors were very grateful.
