Seated in a small room, across the table from Silva, Clifton gave a few minutes of thought as to how best encourage her to give up something.   At this point almost anything would be more than he already had on her, of course she had no real way of knowing just how much they had on her and that could possibly work in his favor.  Clasping both hands on the table before him, he stared directly at her with a stern gaze.

Clifton: You know, from what they've told me, your friend Novar claims he didn't know anything about any data being released to you.  From what he says, you were doing all this on your own.  Now, I'm really doubtful that you are the only person involved in this affair, so it makes sense that anyone else would deny everything.  The question is rather or not you're willing to let them get away with that.

Silva did not respond, she just stared back at him in cold anger.  It was apparent that she felt well protected and didn't think they could do anything to her.

Clifton:  Okay, if that's how you want to play this, then fine.  We have you for trying to pass classified information to a potential enemy.  Assuming those were Visigoths in that ship, and the Federation isn't exactly on friendly terms with them, then we can also add the charge of treason.

Silva:  You'll never make a charge like that stick.

Clifton: Oh, I think we will and do I need to remind you just how serious charges like that are?  You will be impeached from office definitely, that goes without saying, and who do you think is going to come to the aide of a disgraced former Senator?  Of course, you do the smart thing and tell me what's really going on here and things will go a lot easier for you.

Silva leaned forward a bit and glared into his eyes.

Silva: I have nothing to say to you.

Clifton clapped his hands as if this meeting was finished.

Clifton: Fine, have it your way.  If you want to take your chances in court with a treason charge, be my guest.  After all, who am I to interfere with what you want.  Just know one thing, the Federation won't cut any slack to a Senator who gets convicted of treason.  They will toss you in some deep, dark cell in a prison somewhere and you won't get out until your old and gray.

Silva smirked, as if that was an empty threat.  If someone was indeed protecting her, then in her mind they could protect her from even this, which meant a new strategy may prove more effective.

Clifton: Guards!

Two guards entered the room, believing that possibly something was wrong.

Clifton: Gentlemen, our friend here has decided to do the smart thing and help us.

   Silva looked stunned.

Clifton:  I'll have to talk to some people first, keep her in isolation until then, but Miss Silva here has agreed to name names and give us all she has.

Silva: What!  I've told you nothing.

Clifton: Don't worry, I'm sure the judge will give you as much leniency as possible in view of your cooperation.  By the way, I'm going to spread the word around the base about just how helpful you've promised to be ... and believe me I appreciate it.

With that he left the room and headed outside to the guard station where he again told the falsehood about her deciding to cooperate.  Silva must know that whomever she was working with would be most unhappy when this disinformation reached them.  She would be scared, scared for her life and at that point she may well truly cooperate.
