*** Starbase - Security Section ***
Clifton sat in Rayder's office, desperately trying to tie up loose ends and get out of there in order to join the search for Gavin. After his melee with Val, he had called Security in order to not being considered a suspected murderer and they had demanded he come down here for questioning. Seated at his desk across from Clifton, Rayder looked over the information his people had given him about the crime scene.
Rayder: Okay, everything you said matches up with what we found. To me it looks like a clear cut case of self-defense.
Clifton: Believe me, it was. Now okay, we've got that finished, so what about finding my friend Gavin before they toss him out of an air lock somewhere.
Rayder: I've got my people searching every section, but it's a big base. Are you sure you have no idea where he might have been taken?
Clifton: If I did, I'd be there right now instead of wasting time here. All I know is that someone contacted me and said he was in trouble, now for all I know it could be too late right now. How about you cut me loose and let me do some searching on my own.
Rayder: Well ... you're free to go, but I really have to caution you. I don't want you taking the law into your own hands.
Clifton got to his feet somewhat unsteadily, he was still in some pain after Val had assaulted his manhood.
Clifton: Don't worry, I won't do anything I don't have to. By the way, did you ever find out who Val really is?
Rayder: No, not really. All we know is that she came aboard the station earlier today, we checked her ID and found everything to be fabricated, and a very professional job they did too. I doubt that we ever find out who she really was, just a hired assassin is all we really know, and from the look of you she was quite professional in that department too.
Clifton: Yeah, I'll give her credit for that much. Hired by who, that's the question I'd like answered.
Rayder gave Clifton the look of a friend who was sincerely concerned.
Rayder: Clifton, I don't know what you and your friend have stirred up or with who, but from what I've seen these people are very adept and playing for keeps. Once you find your friend, take some well intentioned advice, and just leave it alone from here on.
Clifton: Giving Rayder an indignant glare : These people are operating on your base, right under your nose, maybe that's the whole problem. Too many people, either under orders or not, have just been leaving them alone. I have no idea why, but I darn well intend to find out.
With that Clifton left the office and headed out of the Security level, with all of this legal stuff now behind him it was time to start pursuing what was truly important, finding and rescuing Gavin. The very first item on the agenda was contacting Delia and Colin, whatever Gavin had communicated via telepathy could be very important and may provide some clue. Heading directly back to his rented room he immediately took a seat at the comm terminal and began setting up the secure link back to Delia.
Clifton: Delia, come in. This is Clifton.
Tag: Delia
Clifton: I'm still on the base, we have all the Security people searching for Gavin. Although to be honest, I'm not sure who we can trust and who we can't.
Tag: Delia
Clifton: Ok, can you tell me any more than the fact that Gavin is in trouble. Did he say anything else that you know of? Colin contacted me as well, did he give you any more information, anything at all?
Tag: Delia
Clifton: I know you're worried, so am I, but I promise you that I'll do everything possible to find him.
Tag: Delia
Clifton: What about other telepaths here on the base? Is there anyone here that you can trust, anyone who might be able to give us a clue ... any clue?
