:: Having gotten a night's sleep, Clifton was hardly any less infuriated by their new orders. Some of which were not even known to the captain as of yet, but they soon would be. One glace at Gavin's face told Clifton that the report he had sent him last night had most definitely been read and somehow, he got the idea that the Ambassador was no happier than he. Both he and the Ambassador entered the conference room to find Johanna already seated at the table.
Clifton: Morning, Cap.
::The two men arrived and from Clifton’s expression, she suspected that his computer had told him the same thing.::
J MacLaren: We will be picking up a passenger later today. Were you advised, Chief?
Clifton: Oh, I was informed all right. A freighter, the Wyoming was scheduled to deliver supplies and ferry a few civilians back to a starbase. The supplies are now in our cargo hold, nothing of much consequence beside medicine and food. However, the three civilians that we've been ordered to ferry back are interesting. Well two of them really aren't, they are civilian workers who were out here under contract and were scheduled to get a trip home of the Wyoming, who suffered engine trouble and asked us to deliver her cargo. I didn't know about the civilians until I got a report last night. Like I said the first two are just ordinary folks, I checked their records and neither of them has ever been in trouble ... however the third person is a lady, er a female I should say, that presented quite a problem. A problem for me, anyway.
Amb. MacLaren: I wouldna have to be a empath to know that ye are both unhappy about something. Who is this woman?
Clifton: Taking a deep breath : Former Senator from Earth Esperanza Delores-Silva.
:: As he spoke, a look of disgust crossed his face as the very thought of speaking that woman's name.
Amb. MacLaren: letting out a low whistle: I suppose it is too much to hope that it may be someone of the same name, but not ….
Clifton: Oh, it's her! The peace-loving Senator who blamed the Dominion War on Starfleet for illegally going through the Bajoran wormhole. The same woman who felt like we were wrong to re-take Deep Space Nine, because it belonged to the Cardassians, who were part of the Dominion. The same Senator who just about urged the Federation to surrender in the name of peace, the same woman who accused Starfleet of war crimes, unofficially at any rate.
J. MacLaren: It goes without saying, that our personal views canna interfere with the orders, aye? At the same time, I dinna trust this woman as far as I could throw her. ::Turning to her brother:: What do you think, Gavin? D’ye think she might not be as bad as we fear?
Amb. MacLaren: I wish, but I suspect that her past is not the only problem. From sources I have, she may be involved in some very subversive activities now. What about you, Chief.? You are nae without some unofficial sources.
Clifton: Oh it gets better than what I've already told you. It seems that our friend the former Senator, yeah no wonder she lost re-election, has been taking part in some negotiations with some non-aligned planet somewhere and things are at a delicate point.
:: Clifton now readied himself to tell Captain MacLaren who had contacted him early this morning. ::
Clifton: I got a private message from Admiral Hardesty this morning, he told me about the treaty negotiations and how important it is that the former Senator arrive safely. He also is aware that there might be some hard feelings among the crew about her past, so he had instructed me as Security Chief to see that while she is aboard, she is treated with delicacy.
Tag: Gavin and/or Johanna
Clifton: I'll do my best to keep my temper under check, but we have some crew members who served in the war against the Dominion and I can't predict their actions.
