*** USS Odyssey / Main Engineering ***
:: V'Lenn entered the main warp core area, as Chief Engineer she needed to be totally certain that the ship was up to peak shape, whenever needed. To her surprise and relief, the away team who had been missing had suddenly returned and there were no injuries. With Captain MacLaren now back and in command, as it should be, she was more than satisfied to resume to engineering/scientific duties. Her visual tour noted that a few readings on one of the adjacent panels were slightly below what was required. ::
V'Lenn: Ensign, why are the power dynamic ratios under eighty per-cent?
:: Ensign Vom, a young Andorian who had served aboard the ship for only a few months, felt a somewhat anxious feeling had having to explain this to a senior officer. ::
Vom: Our warp core chamber has been slightly losing power for the past few hours, we are endeavoring to correct the problem.
V'Lenn: For what reason would we be losing power?
Vom: We are uncertain, but for some reason the Di lithium power levels have been fluctuating.
V'Lenn: Then I suggest you find the reason. This ship could require maximum warp output without any notice. If the bridge should suddenly require a warp nine speed, then it is our job to see that we are ready. ::
Vom: Oh, we're ready for a warp speed increase, but at the moment it just may take a few more minutes to provide it.
:: V'Lenn suddenly faced the young Andorian with a more stern than usual look upon her Vulcan face, ::
V'Lenn: Ensign, this ship might require a speed increase with only a few seconds of warning. Are you telling me that you may not be ready to provide that?
Vom: No, I'm just saying that it may wake a few moments.
V'Lenn: Ensign, if this ship were suddenly under attack by superior forces, do you think we might have a few more moments?
Vom: No ma'am. All I can tell you is that these slight power drains began just after the shuttle returned, and they began in the hangar deck.
V'Lenn: Possibly there could be some connection, I'll look into that. In the meantime, I want you and your crew to make certain we lose no more power.
