*** Inside the Castle / Clifton's room ***
:: Clifton remained awake, even though most everyone else was asleep at this hour. His mind raced with various ways to obtain "The Grail" and thus have Morgana reveal whom had attacked his wife all those years ago and began the chain of events that changed his life forever. ::
:: Somehow he had the feeling that obtaining this "Grail" would be difficult, with no facts presently at his disposal he surmised that gaining more intel about what protected "The Grail" was his first priority. ::
:: Stealthily sneaking from his room, wearing just some basic clothing obtained from a nearby (but unoccupied) room, he made his way about the lower floors of this massive, stone complex.
Maybe it was intuition, or just years of covert surveillance experience, but something told him to seek out the lowest floor. It was naturally the least accessible and most likely best fortified of all. Much to his surprise he found a heavy, wooden door that was unguarded and once he slipped inside his eyes were met by the sight of a large, cavernous room. He estimated its size at greater than that of the castle floor, so the present castle must have been built atop this base structure. ::
:: Again much to his surprise there were no guards present, nor did he see anything to indicate what this room was for. Grabbing
an unlit torch from a nearby wall mount he lit the flame and was thus able to see much deeper into the big room. ::
Clifton: to himself : Just imagine these peoples surprise when they discover a butane lighter.
:: He peered into ths distance and was stunned to see a small alcove, completely unprotected but containing what looked to be a few dozen different cups and chalices! Apparently "The Grail" was among these different chalices and the test was for the person attempting to locate "The Grail" was to pick the right one among these 30 or so. He pondered what might happen if he picked the wrong one and hoped desperately that it would not mean a lethal bolt of energy or some other trap to dissuade thieves. ::
Clifton: Well, let's think for a moment and try.
:: He took a step and was suddenly repeled by some kind of energy he had never felt before, he had dealt with forcefields before but there was something decidedly different about this. ::
:: Easing his phaser from beneath his cloak, he set the power beam on level-one and took aim. He fired, only to see the beam reflected away into oblivion. Easing to power setting to a much higher level, enough in fact to vaporize a rhinocerous, he fired again only to see an identical result. ::
:: Whatever kind of field this was, or whatever it was, it had an incredible resistance to attack and thus Clifton was thwarted completely. Now fearing detection he quickly exited the room and snuck away to a deserted part of the castle. Once there he listened for any sound of increased activity, fearing that he may have alerted someone, but no such noises came. The castle remained quiet and peaceful and "The Grail" remained fully protected.
