A Post By First Lieutenant Elisa Kurowsa
Location: Planetside
Timeline:
Tag: Mac, Orion, Syvek, Hostages
"FIRE IN THE HOLE!" Elisa stepped aside and brought up her weapon,
looking away from the door as exactly five seconds after pulling the
pin, the charge detonated. The locking bar shattered and the door was
blown open by the concentrated blast. While the charge wasn't powerful
enough to throw shrapnel far into the room, the bright flash and
sudden *CRACK!* in such a confined space served to stun momentarily
anyone inside.
Immediately she, Mac, and Takahashi were inside the door, almost at
the same time, weapons aimed up and clearing sectors of fire.
The Archangel team moved through the smoke like vengeful wraiths. The
darkness in the ceremonial chamber was punctuated with phaser and
disruptor fire that flashed like lightning on a stormy night. The red
brackets on Mac s visor surrounded potential targets. She quickly and
calmly selected her targets and fired, round after round, and thought
she could taste the ozone in the air. Four threats four targets two
disappeared quickly to the ground and didn t move. Tired, bruised
faces of Romulans and two Klingons were illuminated as if by an
ancient strobe light as they sat grouped together in the center of the
room.
Takahashi melted into the darkness, took advantage of the cover and
confusion, and moved around behind a Breen guard. Hand to hand combat
wasn t what the Breen were best at, and he had one disabled before the
disruptor could be turned against him. It felt good to be in real
combat again not that he was an adrenaline junkie, but fighting for a
cause rather than the glory meant more to him.
Elisa scanned the area with her visor's HUD as she button-hooked to
the left, checking the near corner on the left and as she moved toward
it, rotating to the right, sweeping across the room. Every Breen her
HUD picked out, she squeezed the trigger twice, sending two bolts into
its chest. One shot to Stun them, and the second to ensure they were
indeed down and not moving or posing a threat. One started to sit up
after she passed him, ducked down behind a box, and she immediately
snapped back, squeezing the trigger sending two bolts into his
midriff, sending him tumbling backwards as she resumed her sweep of
the room.
The floor and walls seemed to rumble as the battle outside heated up,
or, Mac thought, it could just be the wild beating of her heart. What
had taken seconds, felt like minutes to her. One target remained
behind the hostages, his helmet masking his features, as all Breen
did. Even with the blanketing darkness, their visors made the room
seem as bright as day. The last Breen held his disruptor to the head
of Klingon. In Mac s opinion, it was stupid of him, because every
Klingon she knew would sacrifice himself in a situation like that.
The Klingon's eyes stared fixedly at her, and Mac's eyes met his
through the visor. He nodded imperceptibly, and the corners of Mac's
mouth twitched into a smile. Her eyes slid to the Breen then she
inhaled and gently squeezed the trigger. The burst of energy sizzled
millimeters past the Klingon s temple to hit the Breen right between
the eyes. It blew him backwards and jerked the Klingon off his feet,
but at least he was alive.
"Takahashi, Kurowsa, get them on their feet and ready for transport",
Mac keyed her comm link. "Syvek Orion, we're bringing the hostages
out. Is the area secured?" She waited a frustrating moment before
stepping into the antechamber for better reception. Syvek? Orion?" she
shouted.
“Give me just a sec…” Orion realized that this was no time to enjoy
the fight so he would have to wait until later for a good scrap,
pulled out one of the D'k tahg from his belt and threw it into the
neck of the recovering Breen. “All Clear” he responded as he walked
over to retrieve his blade and wiped it off, before looking back to
Syvek.
Elisa grabbed the closest Romulan by the arm gently. "Let's go." She
stated, her helmet giving her voice a metallic tinny. "All of you,
let's move. This area is becoming just a tad too hot."
