Changing /tmp directory for install

Hello,

I don't see a way to change the default tmp directory for the install. I tried setting TMPDIR and various other methods but all was ignored the the installer. Users on our cluster use /scratch for tmp file and /tmp has very little space.  It would be very useful to be able to change the default tmpdir.
