Although it does not offer as high of a blocking chance as fellow unique shield, Gerke's Sanctuary, Stormshield still has a very high chance of block and a fast rate of blocking which is very useful in its own right. This is especially useful in the case of Paladins, who benefit from a higher base chance to block, as well as the Holy Shield skill. In addition, unlike Gerke's Sanctuary, Stormshield is a light shield and does not impede movement.
As its name implies, Stormshield primarily provides resistance against the elements of a storm: Cold and Lightning. Stormshield offers a particularly high boost to Cold Resist, and a smaller boost to Lightning Resist.
Stormshield also has the ability to reduce enemy damage by 35%, the highest such bonus from any single item in the game. This property is especially useful on higher difficulties, where survival is more difficult.
Stormshield does not provide defense against Fire or Poison, so when fighting enemies of those kind, resistances should be put into mind. The lack of Fire and Poison resistances can be partially remedied by having Larzuk add a socket and inserting a Perfect Diamond or Um Rune.
