Its easy enough to set up a new forum. Just need to come up with a decent domain name for it that is search engine friendly.

Google groups is ok but a proper bulletin board is so much easier to navigate.

I think this board is fine if a few more folks visited here. quite easy to navigate here and see whats been posted, thanks to debug's excellent work. No spam yet! 

I'm obviously working on my next technical post .....where I will accurately predict the number of Higgs posts in the next 24 hour period on Forum and here. Running a book on it so prediction by midnight, place your bets.

I thought I'd join and post here as well, whilst we wait and see if the other placed is saved or sacrificed.

It would be really nice to see more folks coming across here as it is obvious that the Forum is becoming overwhelmed. I like to be fair minded, but find it hard to understand how Fishy could turn up recently to get rid of the first wave of incessant spam ...... and then bugger off! Why!

It seems the other mods have essentially not bothered to log on this month, but Fishy would known that? Incompetence, stupidity, naïveté ....... the last would be better, but just cos its a free forum doesn't mean we have to accept rubbish. We were taken to the Forum, and that now looks odder each day that inaction makes a mockery of investors efforts to share knowledge and monitor their wealth.

As someone, like many others, who wanted more access for newbies to our discussion board, that didn't mean opening the floodgates for the malicious and retarded. Some of us asked about the cost of running the Forum. Few of us thought it anything but an onerous task, but assistance was waived away. I've lost my patience and it would take a lot to convince me that we don't need a 'competent' proprietor or group of persons of integrity to run a proper board.

Debug has done stirling work over many months and I'm happy to hang around here, but we really do need more contributions, obviously with a slightly more informative content than my efforts. The Forum is quite cumbersome to my mind although it has a smart veneer. I've not investigated Luke's proposed site but it might be what we need. The views of the more experienced investors are needed at this point to support the best way forward.

I'm sure Debug could do with some assistance and perhaps certain aspects of this site could be fine tuned. It isn't glamorous but it mostly works well. Not sure how open it could be to newbies whilst at the same time being less prone to spam? One supposes that even a late effort to clear up the Forum will come too late for many. Let's see what others think, but we need a secure home for substantial numbers of current investors, notwithstanding those yet to come aboard!

Yes it really is a shame about the other board.  It was going very well so I hope they can fix it.

Alternatively Lukes board could work out, although I seem to be having trouble viewing it this morning.   

 I hate this game of chasing boards, it looks so bad, is incredibly frustrating for everyone and we must end up leaving a few behind each time.

This board is open to anyone who applies for posting (148 people atm) and everyone to read, it is a bit slow, but that's google groups for you.  

I don't mind the layout so much, however I guess that's because I am used to HQ :D

Looks like Chaos' site is down at present. You say this board is open to post to all who apply, so I assume you will sort out the spam issue if it arises? Not really a problem chasing boards if we get a stable home and I'm happy here. If we get news of oil flowing I don't think our chequered history will matter.

We should not get a spam problem here.
I individually see every application and choose if the user is granted access, it is not automatic, but currently I accept all applicants.

The worst case scenario is that some one tries to target the group, then I will simply delete the offending accounts and stop accepting requests without proper verification of or referral. I will not allow the group to be overrun or abused.

The problem with google Groups is that they dont show up in Google searches so they're useless as far as bringing new investors on board is concerned which is a big chunk of the reason for having a place to discuss it in the first place..

 

Theres obviously something fishy about McFish now aswell lol, there was something weird about that fight that led to the closure of USOPians, I think he had that planned all along to force people to his new forum, and now maybe he's sold out and pissed off. Nobody sets up a forum, pays for the domain name, hosting etc then fucks off and leaves it like that unless its served its purpose, and the secret mods and admins etc, never being told who paid for it? It all stinks.

 

I dont think the spam on USOPforum is a deliberate attack thouh, if the admin of any forum even if its just discussing My Little Pony is sloppy with security it fills up with spambots instantly, always selling Louis vutton handbags

I have a different theory though (with regards to why it would have been done - assuming of course it was done on purpose)

I reckon he could have been after more shares. Would he do that to others to get a better price? I don't know him that well so no idea but I know he was very well researched and very confident so can't see him selling unless he got hold of some very bad info (which of course is in theory possible)

Fishy is a stubborn pedant who has many faults, but to say he is deceitful would be a million miles away from the mark. I have the upmost trust in his integrity.

Could some one reveal to me who this Fish fella is, i realize he's behind the other forum but can't say i was familiar with the name befor, iii included, a little info on his relevence with usop if any i would appreciated, i can only assume Nobody knows him intimately or we would have answers re his delapidating forum by now,

Don't confuse him with SimonFishybits who does the court reporting on GKP and has been active in a few other shares on iii.

Doctor - your're probably right mate and I my gut tells me he is one of the good guys but at the same time something is definitely not quite right here. It would be nice to know what it is. If anyone has managed to get anything out of Fishy please post or contact me.

Ive also met fishy in person a couple of times and though I dont know him well I have to say my gut feeling is that he's a genuine guy.

Unfortunately Im not in contact with him - my take is that he's taken his eye off the ball here so I hope he's ok!

Im fecking annoyed about the spam issue all the same, and frankly tired of moving bbs too (no offence to Chaos). Have to say I very much like the atmosphere here so thanks again to Debug & this is now where I feel we should be!
