Hi All,

I’m assuming the minimum voting age for the upcoming CBA vote is 16 years old, which is the age required for USNC board members, but since it’s not explicitly spelled out in the bylaws (as far as I can tell anyway), I thought I’d confirm.

Thanks.

Sam,
That’s correct: voting age is 16 and over.
Best,
Matthias

I don't think that immigrants need to show papers as a requirement, one reason why the No vote volunteers haven't approached shoppers at Market Basket, as many are Latinx and scared to do anything like approach an apparently official 'voting booth'..

Hi Kate,

What papers are you referring to? Proof that they live or work in the area.
I just finished voting and I as one of the founding organizers of the USNC had to show my Proof of residency bc I moved then came back and failed to register. So yes if not registered Proof should be requested.

just saying that some Latinx folks will be intimidated because of the sense that approacing any official looking voting set up is not something many of them are doing now, even though their immigration papers aren't requested and some may be in process for green cards, etc.  Sorry that I wasn't sufficiently clear.  It's a larger comment, though I think the appearance of using a city voting machine with the Ward and Precinct still on it is problematic, as were the black and white stickers that have nothing to do with Rafi but were in the basement left over from former state or nationwide elections, --they have a check mark. The overlap was unconscious but I'm not sure it's really legal to have that kind of bleed-through.  As a no voter, i felt overwhelmed by the YES contingent of Rafi employees and union men wearing those stickers. In conversation with them I learne they were only happy that folks were voting.... etc etc

To clarify, nobody that comes to vote will be asked if they are an immigrant, let alone asked for their “papers.”  The only thing people need to provide is a verification of their address. That address could be a home, and the verification a utility bill. That address could be a place of employment and that verification could be a paystub, (although I hear people don’t use those anymore). In an attempt to maintain anonymity and security, USNC did borrow the privacy booths from the city, and a ballot BOX. As an entirely volunteer led organization, we sometimes need to work with our community partners in order to help us do the best job we can. Also, as I mentioned, we did get a ballot box from the city, but we do not have a voting machine.

This vote is not organized by the city in any capacity. This vote is to ratify a contract between two private parties.

If you haven’t voted yet, we hope to see you this afternoon and early evening.

Cheers!

As someone who volunteered to sit at the USNC Board Elections last month (because Board members could not do that task), I was really impressed by the professionalism, organization, and security that was involved in the process. I haven't had a chance to vote yet, but I have no doubt that the setup was handled with thought and care.

I highly recommend that if you have issues with the CBA, to focus on the CBA. In the end, today and for many tomorrows, we all want to be neighbors!

Thanks all!

I just got home from voting. Here is my experience:
  • There was a welcome attendant. How thoughtful!
  • The polls were well staffed all the way down the line!
  • Even though long term USNC Board members know me, they still checked my ID!
  • The ballot was clear.
  • The instructions were clear.
  • Privacy and security was A+.
  • The ballot box was icing on the cake! I was so excited to see it!
  • I love wearing "I voted" stickers! Mine fell off in Market Basket 😭
  • I'm thrilled for those who are voting for anything for the first time today. This friendly, vibrant, and neighborly feel was very different from my first time voting. My hometown used lever machines that were imposing. Today was a super cute experience that was also professionally done.
Really great work, USNC!

A dozen flyers I put up on Somerville Ave and on Properzi Way were systematically torn, defaced or removed between yesterday afternoon and this morning.

Had I imagined it would come to this I would have photographed our NO flyers yesterday to prove they were indeed there.  I placed flyers carefully to counter theirs but not cover or deface them.  This is not new behavior, other flyers have been torn down and removed, once with a witness on tower court.

I thought USNC requested Rafi to stop using unsigned "Facts" posters.  One of the flyer was defaced with the "I voted" sticker which echoes Rafi's the yes check mark, an index of how problematic that voting equipment was used.   Today, I stapled a few multi page rebuttals of the Facts up and down Properzi.  Many pages, too late.   I have appreciated jenn Harrington's suggestions for civility but I find the disparities heartbreaking, and the threats about what will happen if the CBA doesn't pass sound just like that, threats.  It doesn't testify to the good faith that this is a voting process, though it does indicate strong feelings. The NO folks have those, too.

Can the proof of residency / work location be digital or will they require a print out?

Thanks,

Electronic should be okay. This is not a federal election!

I've been working 12 hour days with weird hours, how can I vote?
