Aloha Friends-

I hope this letter finds you well in the midst of these strange and challenging times.  At Pono Grown Farm our path of providing food to the community and training responsible land caretakers feels more important than ever.  We are so grateful to be of service doing what we love right now.

If you feel inspired to write a letter to the Maui Planning Commission on our behalf, it would make a BIG difference in demonstrating the great amount of community support that exists for Pono Grown.  We are nearing the end of a County Special Use Permit process to further our agricultural education offerings on the farm, and we need your help.  Our ability to host programs is at risk as we have some neighbors who do not want farm-based classes to happen on our land.

The letter can be short, sweet, and sent via email to me at evn...@hotmail.com

Our permit application (CUP20190005) primarily includes the special uses of (1) having a farm and nature based preschool on the land as well as (2) using our planned, but not yet constructed “pavilion space” to host classes and workshops.  Pono Grown Farm School will educate a maximum of 28 three to six year olds in two classrooms, with four teachers, who will spend over half of each day outdoors immersed in sustainable agriculture and nature connection.

As for classes and workshops, we envision the following future programs:

-Agricultural and Edible Landscape Design, Implementation, and Maintenance

-Orchard & Garden Management

-Water Conservation & Renewable Energy Systems

-Watershed Management through Water Harvesting, Retention and Erosion Control -Composting & Waste Reduction

-Permaculture & Carbon Farming

-Kupuna Talk Story: Traditional Hawaiian Farming & La’au Lapa’au

-Farm to Table Cooking

-Self Care Practices for Human Sustainability

-Plant Propagation & Seed Saving

-Raising Chickens

-Beekeeping

-Tree Planting

-Ag Business Management

-Disaster Preparedness

Thanks so much for taking the time to support our growth. We so appreciate it!

Please let us know if you intend to write a letter! We are hoping that you are able to do this in the next week!

Mahalo,
