I setup a project initially as 11x17 but now I want to create posters
from it. There are two issues. One is aspect ratio, the other is
scaling up to get higher DPI for poster than what I could do now by
printing enlarged PDF.

Its pretty easy for me to adjust the page elements to fit a different
aspect ratio. My first thought was that I could adjust the page to
12.14x17 (same aspect ratio as 30x42) and then print at 247%. But this
converts the page setup and ends up with an 11x17 document in top left
corner of page.

Other option is to scale everything on the page but not sure how that
will deal with lineweights and fonts. Also tough to numerically scale.
Only work around I have seen is to draw a rectangle of know size, and
then snap to that. My thought was similar, but a little backwards.
Draw an 12.14x17 inch rectangle around my objects, and then scale that
to snap to the edge of the page, then remove the rectangle. But I have
30 pages; neither way seems like fun.

Any other thoughts?

Update:

OK, I found a reasonable workaround.

- First I resize my page from 11x17 to 34x24.285714 inches.
- The result is a large page but with small layout content at the top
left.
- I then grouped everything and scaled by factor of 2.0 (dragging
bottom left corner of group)
- At first glance the SketchUp elements didn't scale, but if I go to
edit the view, and then close the edit (without actually altering
anything, seems to work). Could probably re-load or close and open as
well, but I haven't tested.
- One thing that doesn't scale is text, so I Ungroup and increase text
size. You can select a lot of text at once and then scale it up. In
some cases I don't want the text scaled up fully.
- Last step is for me to adjust the title block and positioning of
elements to adjust for the different aspect ratio between by 11x17
sheet and 30x42(aspect ratio sheet)
- Now I export (to keep simple one page at a time) at 300dpi.

My 34x24.285714 document at 300dpi converts to rougly 250dpi at 30x42.
If this wasn't enough resolution you could just scale to factor of 2.5
or 3.0 vs. 2.0 and adjust page size appropriately.

By the way, I'm new to using the Google Groups, is there a way to edit
my original post vs. replying to it?
