The Fisherman - Stage Left
Minnesotans Carl and Chucky Lund, both airplane mechanics, dream of a retirement filled with fishing and listening to Twins games on the radio. But then their bosses at the airline have a surprise that takes them out of their Lake Woebegon reverie: No more jobs and no more pensions. Despite all that reputation for “Minnesota nice,” there comes a time when one cannot be nice anymore—and this is it. Jayne McGhan’s brand new play is directed for Stage Left Theatre by company member Drew Martin and features company members Sandy Elias, Kate Black-Spence and Ian Maxwell. A folksy tale right out of today’s newspapers. More info at www.stagelefttheatre.com. (Approx. running time: 2 hrs. w/intermission.)

The
Sea - Theater Mir
Theatre Mir begins a season at Theater Wit with British author Edward Bond’s 1973 play, inspired by The Tempest and about what happens when a storm rages through a seaside village, killing a prominent member of the community and washing ashore a stranger who says that he is a friend of that person. However, the village draper is convinced that the stranger is an alien from outer space and tries to convince everyone else. Unfortunately for him, the “first lady” of the town is on the side of the stranger and the fiancée of the drowned man has fallen in love with him. It all boils down to fear of change and the unknown—and the comic and tragic results of that fear. Jonathan Berry, who has had some big hits this season in this space, directs.
