A personal one for you. My daughter is ten and is starting to get
excited about the prospect of driving. Her vision is not great,
however, and I'm terrified by the idea of 1) either seeing her drive
or 2) having to tell her she can't. Anybody have advice on how I can,
pardon the pun, steer her away from driving?

I learnt how to drive as soon as I could, at 17 (I did not know I was
a sufferer at that age). About two years ago however I was told I
couldn't drive anymore. My sister, also a sufferer of ushers syndrome,
younger than me, never learnt how to.

My view is, for her, she never learnt how to, so doesn't miss it. I
miss driving greatly, once you've had the freedom of driving, its
incredibly hard not to have it anymore.

You could give your daughter a chance to drive perhaps, let the
driving instructor decide if its a good idea to proceed after one
lesson. It may be however, when applying for the licence, it gets
turned down anyway due to the condition or the current state of her
eyes.

I do now have a free bus pass which I do all my travelling using,
which isn't so bad now that I'm used to it.

Hope my experience helps.
