Trouble with understanding voices

Hello:
I am a new member that joined today. My name Is Mani Iyer and I have
Usher Syndrome Type 2. I have moderate to profound hearing loss and
very bad eyesight.
I am trying to start a new life by learning mobility and other
accessibility technologies. I am learning a screen reader, cane
training and elementary Braille.
With the screen reader I have trouble understanding certain words and
the voice just does not matter. It gets frustrating at times.
Do you folks have any suggestions on remedying this problem?
